Yes.... this was my sunday...
this was on my white 92 740 turbo
I didn't grab the camera until after the new (to me) core was in
so this is just putting things back together
total time was ~5 hours...
the next one could probobly be done in 3-4

a hint at all the **** you have to remove to get to the core

a lower view... yes there is normaly lots of stuff blocking the view of the pedals normaly

oh hey its the EZK box and the new heater core

sexy closeup

picture with the airbox reinstalled
you can see the blue silicone i used to seal the box and a bunch of the little 7mm screws that hold it in place
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/heatercore009.jpg
more screws
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/heatercore010.jpg
passengers side of the diverter box showing the flaps (with ewwy foam removed)
you can sorta see the heater core though the hole in the lower left of the oppening
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/heatercore011.jpg
this gives you an idea of how little space there is to work with between the dash and the top of the box to get the little screws back in
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/heatercore013.jpg
the foam that seals the diverter box to the defroster vents would not stay in place...
so we bodged it using duct tape and a zip tie for no reason...
yes, we left the zip tie in..
no, it does not do anything... (other than scream a t-bricker was here)
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/heatercore016.jpg
this is what goes infront of the big hole of the diverter box and sends air in its rightfull direction

yay lots of wiring to sort out
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/heatercore020.jpg
omg... its like back in one piece...

Looks like fun. I'm bummed I never had to do this on my wagon.:-D At least you won't have to worry about it again for the time you own this car now.

good job...looks like it's about as much of a pain to get at on a 740 as a 240

i really hope that doesn't come up for me anytime soon!

definitely appreciate the time you put into though because it looks like a very clean assembly afterwards, might make it a little easier next time

In Wisc, you guys NEED heat in winter. Is your trusty helper another TB'er?

volvo took a heater core and built an entire car around it.

You'd think volvo would consider making heater core access more convenient after the 240.. (not sure where volvo stuffed heater cores in the older ones..).

Feels good to have that done though!
