I found these at the junkyard! I don't know if they are as reliable as iron ditos, bu I think I'll give them a try anyway!
Anyone know the weight of the iron ones? My guess is that thse give a saving of about 2 kg each (~4lbs)
These are 1,5 Kg (3,3lbs) each, including the bushing shown in picture.

There was a certain year split where they went from steel to aluminum (or verse visa). My 88 740GLE has aluminum arms.

They're freakin' everywhere! My '86 765 had 'em, my '89 745 has 'em, there's quite a few in the JY right now, I imagine.
What years/models DON'T have them?

My understanding is the change over year is 1993. But any year can have them installed. You also need the straight threaded rod type anti sway bar link to install them. But that's it as far as I know. A good weight savings in the suspension=better handling and ride quality.

Lots of cars had these. Theres no pattern or logic to which. Its completely random. You just have to look underneath the car.

my old 1992 940GL had the AL arms, it's alot easier to find aftermarket poly endlinks for them
I dunno if our 1994 940 had them though, but I noticed that cars with the big front swaybar (the 24mm one) tended to have the cast-iron control arms. Why this is I do not know, I had zero issues running a 24mm front bar with my AL arms, and I'm sure IPD sways would work fine too.

my 1995 944 has the normal steel ones. base model (low pressure turbo engine), no A/C etc...

Oh... and you lucky guys also got the aluhoods on many cars!! I have never seen one on a junkyard in Sweden...
In Sweden only some very specific combinations got these, as wagons with B230K engines.
I think that was because with the Alu control arms they were so light that they were classed in a lower tax group (We have an annual car tax in Sweden, that is calculated from car weight)

My 93 doesn't have em. Find them on a lot of old 760s. They aren't a ton lighter, seem weaker, and don't fit my solid end links, so they stay in the bin of stuff to be recycled at some point.

my 85 744, 93 945t, and my ex's 94 944t didn't have em
we should get some weight differences...JE jr, do you have your original arms to compare against?
also, are the bushings the same between them?

Sorry, I don't have any stel ones laying around so I can check the weight... Don't know about the prssed in bussings either, those umbrella-bushings seems to be the same anyway!
Good thou that ACBarnett has tried them with 24mm Sway! I'm planning on running them with 23mm sway!
