View Full Version : Installing a BOV with a CBV

I've got myself an HKS SSQV knock off.

When installing it I was wondering if I could leave the mitsu CBV in place, but disconnect the vacuum line to it. Would this allow me to just swap the vacuum line between the BOV and the CBV depending on what mood I'm in?!

The SSQV is normally closed, so that should work, and I think the CBV is normally closed too no?

I'm not running so much boost that I think the CBV will leak.

Just pondering...

w/o the vac line which DOES see boost going to the CBV there is a good chance it will leak ... just throw a block off plate on it

Just make a plate for it Jim- it's easy enough. Setting up those knock off SSQV's can be a pain though as they don't always seal at idle- ask me how I know :owned:
The next step for you will be MS, because you're fed up with the occasional stall- it was for me!!! ;-)

I'm thinking same thing, only have a forge dumpvalve (normally closed).

So just pull the cbv and everything that connects to the cbv, install new bov and it'll run ?

Basically, yes.

LH2.4 is supposedly fairly tollerant, but I haven't yet tried it.

As thelostartof pointed out, leaving the CBV in place (if you have a mitsubishi turbo) probably won't hold the boost, as the vac line normally uses the boost to keep it closed. For this reason you'll need a block off plate.

If you have a garrett you don't have that problem.

I suppose another hack would be to T the vac line from the CBV into the WG line. That way the pressure would still be equal(ish) on either side.

Probably easier just to stop fighting it and make a plate though!!

That may or may not work better... It still uses an air flow meter.

just a slightly OT question here, since ppl have problems buying cheap and good BOV's.
I have seen some ppl here that use a CBV from a 700 series as a BOV. Those units are nice and they are very cheap... or is there a strange reason why they wont work with LH?
