Howdy all, just wanting some info/feedback on the garrett GT2871R 52 trim turbo. Has anyone used this turbo on an 8v redblock? if so how do you rate it.

Rob does : http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=64485
it spools at about the same rate as a T3 so full boost around 3500 i think.

pretty sure it's a lot quicker than that. full boost by 3500 is sloooow. but I wasn't really watching the boost gauge when I drove it. :-P

Rob's turbo makes full boost earlier than 3500. More in the 2800-3000 range. 260 some wheel at 19-20 lbs....

I think it is called the threshold which is better of a GT compared to many T3's.
At lower boost and the area between start and full spool a GT just gives better push and earlier. So basically the full spool does only say so much. The T3 has a more "on/off" behavior.

WHICH T3?
There only about 4,500 different versions.

MY T3 spools and is making fun boost at 2500, and keeps going past 7000.

And Garretts own figures shows a whopping 0,2 sek quick time to full boost.
0,2 seconds. Looks kie more hype for a pooor return on investment.

well, they can hit higher shaft speeds than a t3, and i love t3/t3s, but there are lots of options w/the gt series, that whell is as big as a smaller t4b wheel, could go smaller i think, what are the hp goals

that is the same comp wheel i am going to put in a t4bhousing later this year

Honestly, most of the T3/T4, straight T3's and GT varients spool around the same, especially combined with a relatively small AR ( :cough: 48ar :cough: ). My GT3071R has throttle/boost response over 4000rpm like no other thrust bearing turbo I've ever driven, to the point of annoyance almost. (A little lag when peddling for traction wouldn't be such a bad thing)

duel bb turbos have no thrust, shaft seals last way longer, bearings last way way longer at very high shaft speeds, very durable untill you overspin the hell out of them, but i do not use one because i do not take very good care of the ol girl and do not want to break a practicly unrebuildable 1100$ peice of turbo

Agreed.

John it doesn't matter what T3 so long as it is compared to an equivalent GT series turbo.

If you size them for X amount of horsepower at Y pressure ratio, and then compare the correctly sized T3 for the given app to the correctly sized GT for that same app the behavior is as Johann explained. Garrett will tell you this as well.

Using how long it takes to get from 0 to full boost under some arbitrary set of conditions as a means of determining turbo response is shortsighted at best.

Again Garrett will tell you all of this.

But that's the problem here specifucally and on modding stuff en generale.

People rarely compare equivalent stuff or even appropriate stuff.

I don't doubt that, gas is still gas, still works under the old laws.

But the "quicker spool" is the most often thrown out arguement.
Including on Garretts site.

Again Garrett will tell you all of this.

Yeah they'll tell you a lot but they'll also tell you that the parts for my favorite turbo the TB3403, don't exsist, and that they never made a part called 413746-0005 or 413746-0002 for TB0384 also is "all wrong, you must be mistaken---it doesn't exsist".

What turbo should I get for 600bhp?
