Here are some pictures (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/242-1.jpg) of the car (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/242-2.jpg). It has a (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/rust1.jpg) little (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/rust2.jpg) rust (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/rust3.jpg).
1st thing is first. It needs a new brake master cylinder and a new(er) brake booster. It also needs a wiper blade on the passenger's side of the car. After I get my 245Ti back on the road I will start the body repairs.

That's very little rust.. but is there some under the driver side mirror?
I think white is a going to be a great color to work with... and whats up with that 245 in the back covered by shrubs in the back of the second pic?
What goals do you have for the 242 after the wiper and brakes?
Good luck with it!

There is rust under both mirrors. There are actually several cracks :omg: in the drivers side door. I will have pics when I fix it. White IS a good color to work with, I am very happy. The car was $550, BTW.
The yellow 145 covered in brambles in the background is my neighbors. I try to get him to sell it but he won't.
At the moment the 242 is a spare car I can drive while I work on my 245. Eventually, who knows :-P . It is certainly begging for coilovers  .

Okay, it only took me a little bit today to make a lot of noticably improvement to the car.
Windshield wipers (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/242_wipers.jpg) help a lot when you want to drive while it is raining. Prior to now the passenger side windshield wiper arm had been either damaged or non-existant. Also, I installed new wiper blades at the same time. This totaled $18.47 for the wiper arm from the junk yard and two new Borsch wiper blades.
I also find that it is really annoying to drive around in a car that reeks of gasoline. I was able to fix this by simply reinstalling (it had poped off one end) the vent line from the tank to the filler neck. You can see what it is supposed to look like (under all of the protective covering) on an early 240 coupe/sedan right (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/242_gas1.jpg) here (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/242_gas2.jpg). This cost me $0 for two hose clamps I already owned.
Similar to windshield wipers in the rain, headlights are invaluable while driving at night. I went to the junk yard and picked the two newest looking headlight relays I could find. The guy that checked me out flat out refused to charge me for both of them so I got a whiched 2-for-1 deal. I cleaned it up (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/headlight_relay1.jpg) and installed it (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/242_headlight_relay1.jpg) and I must say, I am glad I paid $4.99 for a junk yard one instead of $51 for a new one.
The last improvement I made was to install the tachometer that I got from b4_ford for $20. Originally, my car had a block off plate where the tachometer could have been: pic 1 (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/early_gauges2.jpg), pic 2 (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/early_gauges3.jpg). You just unscrew three 7/32" screws, slip the tach in, and screw it back together (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/early_gauges4.jpg). Of course before it would work (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/early_tach2.jpg) I had to run an additional wire from coil negative (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/early_coil1.jpg) (the white wire is the new one). Of note is the fact that on the early 240 gauge clusters, they just clip in (http://tabor.taborandtashell.net/volvo/pictures/early_gauges1.jpg) on the top. This means it can take quite a lot of force to actually remove the gauges. Also, don't forget to remove the speedometer cable or it will be quite difficult :-P .

You are telling me! My digicam broke and I can't find the cable for my daughters, but I picked up a Penta AQ171C today! That is the 2.5L stroked 16 valve B230F! I am stoked. It is sitting in my garage which is slowly filling with volvo parts. Right now, I have (amound other things):
Two Multi-X Rims
Four ARE Rims
Three 530 Heads
One Volvo Penta AQ171C
EDIT- Any one need any Porsche parts? There are also a bunch of those.

If it helps, it is in pieces and is going to need some machine work to get back together. Anyone need three AQ171C pistons? :-P
