Yessir The date is in the books. The Hotel is in the works, and the planning committee has been convened.

The place:
Montgomery, Al.

The Hotel:
TBD

Tentative schedule of events:

Friday Morning/Early afternoon:
Arrival, check in, prep for dragstrip.
5pm Depart for track, stopping for fuel/money/etc (target arrival time at track 5:45ish)
Track is $15 to race (****ers). Race gas is around $7/gal for 110 or 112 I forget.

Unless we get rained out again (damnit!) we will be at the track until 10pm
From there the normal routine is either fast food (my vote) or find a place that'll let 1000 greasy smelly tbrickers unite and tear walls down. I still vote for fast food and hit the pool at the hotel.

Saturday Morning/Early afternoon:
Dyno day. This was a bit of a mess last year, look for something a bit more organized this year. TBD. Cost to dyno is going to be at least $50, so if you want to find out the cold hard truth, bring yo cash sucka.

Saturday late afternoon/early evening:
Raid the hotel's pool. Maybe sneak in a grille or two, relax, beat the **** out of each other, and generally rest up for the party that gets us thrown out of the hotel later that night.

Saturday night/Sunday early AM:
Time for the mind eraser. The internationally famous SE party. You all have seen the videos, you know what its going to be like, fin.

Sunday morning:
HAH!

Sunday Noon:
Wake up, stagger in somewhere for breakfast

Sunday around 3pm to midnight:
Those that are departing will depart, the rest will float, recover from the party. (depending on whether or not we're going to rent the grand prix track)

**Monday AM:
get up at the ass crack of dawn, head to talladega grand prix, wear the cars out all day, depart from there.

/End SE 6.0

Things you should bring:
If theres a strong chance something on your car will break, BRING A SPARE (be it engine, turbo, transmission, chassis, ecu, etc)
For the LH crowd, I would strongly suggest bringing a spare AMM and o2 sensor, plugs (just in case)
For the MS crowd, I would strongly suggest bringing a power inverter, a set of plugs and whatever else has been a problem (Mike: bring fuses or aluminum bar stock)
For all: Fuel pressure regulator, rear subframe, whatever series transmission came in your car, spare differential, set of rod bearings.

Bring the usual road trip toiletries (tooth brush & paste, deoderant is a MUST *cough*cullen*cough*, razor if the need strikes you, soap, wash cloth, etc)

Bring enough cloths for a week, and a change or two of "car mechanikin' " cloths. You'll invariably need them.

Pillow/sleeping bag/etc is optional, if you're a homophobe I would strongly suggest the sleeping bag (or just getting a room with 1 other person. We can accomodate, but I will need a SERIOUS headcount ASAP. Expect some sort of deposit for the room).

MONEY. You dont have to spend a lot to have a good time, but don't get stuck with too little. its a long walk home.

Anything else you deem needed. Others can chime in with their favorites.

Rules of thumb:
If you're not absolutely sure your car will make it, you should probably leave it and catch a ride. If You think your car stands a better than average chance of catastrophic failure, again, don't bring it. We encourage everyone to bring their stuff and see how it stacks up, but if you're 600 miles from home and your car blows a rod out the side, you're ****ed.
Small disasters can be handled , but this is less than ideal and We would like to avoid this if possible. Hitch a ride if you're not confident in yours, you'll still have a blast.

Don't assume anything, if you're unclear about something, ask ahead of time.
If you're planning on getting your car tuned on the dyno, bring the stuff required to tune it. If it's MS'd, bring your laptop, I don't have the time or inclination to track down 40 different versions of ms&s-e on my laptop to make sure your stuff is on top of its game. (See stuff to bring).

If possible, travel with at least one other person. Reasons should be obvious, but if not: If one breaks down you've got an extra set of hands, a ride to the parts store, and someone to be calling and notifying while the other looks into the problem.

So. With all this said, whose in?

Mike, you could fly into practically any city in the Southeast US and somebody could give you a ride. There are 3 airports in the DC area, and you could ride down with our caravan for sure. Plenty of cars and people from DC headed down.

Just find the cheapest flight and arrange for somebody to pick ya up!

Oh yeah, btw, this means I'm in. Got time off work today :)

Dunno if I'll bring the car or not, haven't decided.

+1 fly into Atlanta and we'd be happy to pick you up. It's about a 2 hour drive from ATL to the Gump.

Rob! you're not bringing the 242? Your car isn't going to get to meet it's ugly cousin.... :(

Bring a camera + video camera(s) with tapes.
If you film, please let me borrow the tapes long enough to capture the video. I will mail them back to you within 2-3 weeks following the meet.

A small cooler might be a good idea also, Bama in July/August is pretty damn hot.
-sunscreen
2-way radios might help on the drive down if you're in a caravan

I'll be there for sure. I might even have my wagon back together in time to drive it down, though you won't recognize it this year.

I looked at the airline flight schedule revisions about a month ago, so going from memory... Northwest(airlink) should have a noonish departure PHX/MGM via MEM.
America West has PHX/MGM flights but probably via LAS & CLT of all places. Montgomery is one of those places you just can't get to directly.

All the better if a direct flight. The airlines are allowed to change/add/modify their routes once every 56 days, so roughly every 2 months I get a summary of all the changes that I look at for 2.59673 seconds and toss. I only care about Midwest Airlines a$ I have a very ve$ted intere$t.

Todd: I'm extremely interested in caravan'ing or riding with you and I'd really love to help video this year.

Yah, I was thinkin Coon like the racist coon. Not Racoon coon.

Didn't know that was a type of dog.... So I was wondering why the hell you'd call yourself a coondog if you weren't black. Not that a black person would want to call themselves a coon dog.

I had racoons in my backyard trying to eat my pond fish, so one night I camped out on my roof with my pellet gun and wounded some bastid coons (not African American people). Haven't had coon trouble since... but those damn herron I tell ya wuat meow.

740's not gonna make it....summer class FTL

mikep

I just got my jury duty crap in the mail. July 2nd (my birthday) to Aug. 31 (I go back to school/work in mid-August). I really hate this. I just went to court as a not-needed witness in a theft case, I go back for the other defendant on June 27th.
Not to mention I had signed up for a day class in the summer, so I will have to cancel that, too.

So I will see how this plays out. I might show up, or I might be sitting in a courtroom.

Can't you just write a letter to the court stating you'll be out of the area from_ to _? Here anyway, they'll just reschedule you for the next jury duty cycle. They can't expect you to live your life around their schedule.

If I do that I will have to serve during the school year, which means writing substitute lesson plans for 2 months, grading all that work, etc. plus the kids get way less shop time.

again....
write them a letter

You can seek permanent exclusions from jury duty
My dad did this because if he had to leave his buisnes that consisted of himself and another it would have caused the buisness to colapse (hardship)
MD granted it to him back in 99

Tiebird, how would you keep Samuel the Holstein (RIP) refrigerated for the trip down? Better trailer him down alive and find a local packing house to, er, render him into patties, etc.

Ok, it seems like the original venue is about to fall through. I've tried calling up there several times and don't get an answer, so I'm back on the hunt.

I found another place nearby that has agreed to $70night/room. The block I'm going to schedule is going to be friday and saturday nights. Its a large hotel and I have little doubt that those who would come early would have no difficulty getting in earlier that week.
Perks: Indoor pool and hottub, attached/adjacent Waffle house.
For those who are coming in friday, with 4 people to a room its going to be in the neighborhood of $35 for your weekend stay. For those who come earlier, well, its all dependent on when you show up and where you crash.
But like I said, i'm going to look around a little longer for a couple of days, then go with the best of the remainder and post info.

Trailer + 27CF Chest freezer + 200amp alternator + 2000W inverter
The chest freezer only draws 450W when its running so it wont be putting that much load onto the inverter. Also have a 4.5Kw gas generator + 22 gallon 5hp air compressor that are comming with me.

I'm putting casters onto it and tie down hooks to make moving it around super easy. So when I showed up all that would be needed is to roll it off the trailer and find an outlet in the hotel.

Ok, got it down to $60 night/room, with check in on thursday, check out sunday. Anyone needing extra time should take that up with the people at the hotel, since thats not likely to be a large number of you.
This means for each room if you stuff 4 people in there your cost on the weekend for housing (and probably some form of free breffast) is $45.
From hence forth you have 24 hours to yay/nay and hemhaw, then I'm going to ice the deal with the hotel and post contact info.

Group may book under the block anytime before check-in. The group is not responsible to pay for unused rooms in the block. Group members may cancel reservations at any time before check-in. No deposit required.

It will be up to you guys to make room mate arrangements.
Its a three star hotel. older model, but its not bad.

I've found over the years that motels will generally give a group rate for a day before & after the actual group stays. If they initially don't want to, mention then that maybe you'll stay at a competitor's establishment instead. They'll come around.

I don't know if the Wisconsinites are rooming together or what, but for all I care, if I'm paying for a room and any of the guys camping need a shower, go for it. As long as ya gots your stuff (soap, no-stink and your own towels) and you don't do anything to get the shower walls all white & sticky I'm fine with it. Sure is better than smelling 3 day old pit funk.

Or... we could find you a garden hose. :-P

Anyone in the NC area going down on Thursday? It appears it will just be me and Jason (oo4playmrright). Our plan is to drive down thursday, and drive back on monday. We went to the track day on Monday and then left, and then drove all the way home, that was a terrible trip. I want to take it easy on the way down at back.

Anyway I'm assuming we will be leaving from my house (it's right next to I-85) sometime in the morning area (7-8am?). It's undecided right now if he is going to have his wagon there, he's trying to get megasquirt done in the mean time, and I will be driving the stock'ish 245 with cruise control and AC this year :) And no accidents...
