Dyno day was fun. There were a lot of drop-outs, and more than likely I probably won't be organizing any more of these. Luckily the guys at Matrix were accommodating, and switched us from the day rate to hourly rate. Kudos to the other guys who showed up... thanks for coming, and thanks for being understanding, and kicking in the extra $$ for the hourly rate. It actually worked out for the better. Eric Danielson and I had some extra time to do some serious dyno tuning.

Now for the numbers:

My car's specs:
1990 745Ti
M90 trans, Kevlar clutch, dual-mass flywheel
3.73:1 TruTrac LSD
B230FT with .030-over pistons, polished and lightened crank, speed-balanced
Phase I ported and polished head, match-ported intake manifold, MVP Phase I cam with 4-degrees of advance
59mm throttle body, 960 AMM (65mm ID)
TD05-16T, ported and polished cold side, larger wastegate puck
ITG filter
Full 3" exhaust
Apex'i electronic boost controller with 16psi boost
Split Second PSC1-003 Programmable Signal Calibrator, 450cc injectors

HP: 220.2 @ 5000 RPM
Torque: 253.3 @ 3750 RPM

My car ran a total of four times. The first one was to get a baseline for the dyno and for the fuel map. Second and third were to dial the fuel mixture in to the "zone" (car knocked like crazy on the second run, not so bad on the third). By the fourth run, everything went smooth. Car pulled hard, and did a superb job. Full dyno run on #4 got the above numbers.

I'm satisfied with the motor/drivetrain. Only addition from here will be a possible NPR intercooler, and different turbo plumbing.

Now the car goes in the garage for body work and paint, complete with 960 front end conversion.

Eric, Cameron, and Luke... post your numbers here too (if you want).

First off, Nick once again thanks for organizing events! I know how frustrating it gets, it saddens me the little turn out with get with as many enthusiasts that there are in the Portland/Vancouver area. :-(

Also, Nick, if you happen to get your Dyno sheets scanned I would like to see what they ended up with on your car!

The guys at Matrix were great I agree! If I need to dyno my car again I will go back there!

It was great fun, if you havent been to a dyno event or heard a car on a dyno it is an amazing experience. Very loud, the cars sound VERY good :-)

All in all it worked out very well, it was sweet to watch some dyno tuning in action and to hear the pinging be eliminated after modifying fuel maps!

Here we go the numbers so you guys can rip them up. :-P
This was really just to get an idea how much power this motor produces virtually stock and to get a baseline.

Car Specs:
82 242Ti
B21FT bored .030 over, balanced, 3 angle valve job
Intercooled
M46
6 PSI
Turbobricks PVC airbox mod
2.25" stock exhaust minus one flow restricting component
Stock Garrett T3

HP: 122@5000 RPM
Torque: 154@2500 RPM

I love that low torque peak!

Dyno sheets are at http://home.ncn.com/~pcguy/dynoDay.html

My car ran 4 times total like Nicks, once for the dyno. Then 3 full throttle blasts. The last 2 were the most consistent. It blew some in the higher RPMs due the enrichening mixture. All in all it was great, K-jet looks to be doing what it is supposed. I have some wiggle room for at least 4 psi, maybe 6!

Will I am content with the numbers it pulled, there is always the itching for more power :) So the additions will be more boost 10-12 to stay under the M46 power destroying area, 3" exhaust, B230 style intake, different cam. Nothing too wild for now :-P

Once again thanks Nick, nice to meet everyone and hang out as always!
Eric, Nick and Cameron, VERY sweet cars, always a blast to hang out and chat with you guys!

Thanks again for organizing Nick, if we just have to keep having small gatherings that is fine with me!

take care
Luke

That _was_ fun! Thanks, Nick, for setting this up - sorry more people didn't show up. I was disappointed with my numbers, as the other two s/c Volvos with the same boost level I have (8psi) produced between 175 and 180 at the rear wheels. Now they're both running 10psi...

I also just can't figure out the O2 readings. I simply cannot believe that my engine's running an a/f ratio of 19.5:1. I also don't understand why my graphs end at 5700rpms when I watched the tach wind up to 7000. Am I to believe that it made power up to 5700 but not above? Feels stronger on the road above 5700rpms than below. Weird.

Yeah well.

With a B20+.030", C grind cam, 2.5" exhaust and 8 lbs boost:

149.7HP at 5700
175 ft-lbs at 4000.

Not enough. Not nearly enough. Parker's getting 245hp.

Best,

Cameron
