Sent a email asking if there was any rust and got back a reply of no. Been saving as best I can lately and offered 1200 for it, rediculously low I know but litterally the life savings of a married college student. Didn't hear back for almost 2 weeks and out of the blue get a response that a deal may be possible. Talk to the owner on the phone, he said another buyer had it inspected and was quoted 1000 to fix it so he would take 1500, I talked him down to 1400 and send the check out tomorrow. Turns out the problem is that the transmission slips out of gear while idleing at a light and the shop claimed it needed a new driveshaft U joint in addition to the transmission service. They quoted the U joint at 3 hours labor so there bill looks well padded. My mother-in-law has offered to pick up the car and store it in her garage for me till I can get to her place to claim it.

First task will be to swap in an m46 which is sitting in my attic, one local JY has a 260 with a m46 so I'll source the pedal, driveshaft, lever and master and slave cylinders from there. Already have a cluth and pressure plate.

Since I get this the wife has decided that she gets the black 240 but that the interior I'm putting in is too masculine for her so this car may or may not end up with a green and black interior. I may instead do a full resto on the upholstery. Haven't decided yet.

Second project is to build turbo manifolds and try to fit a pair of turbos on there, I was thinking either a set from an s80 or a pair of 13c, either way something that can spool quickly and put in a decent amount. Curious as to how long a b27 can survive under say 9-10psi meanwhile finishing my rebuild to drop in. Would ultimately like a nice V6 twin turbo build with a better engine.

Word is, B27's have a hard time surviving N/A. I would not put 9-10 PSI on it. You should save the TT for a B280. Very nice car though.

That's the intent, I have a nice engine being rebuilt for turbo use and will want to MS it, just want to see how fast this one goes with a pair of turbos so I have the excuse to pull it. Just yanking "perfectly good" engines can be tough to pass off as reasonable when there is a wife.

Find a bertone with a rod knock. I have waited long time for this one. I actually talked to the guy 4 years ago and tried to buy it then but would not sell. I did not know untill I got there it was the same guy. We talked shop started it up rod nock. The guy wanted $1700 but He did not get that. Now I have it sitting in my driveway..:P and its getting the GN motor :) I think yours looks nicer than mine though. You scored too.

No rust? And you believe that? I wouldn't buy a car that old w/o looking for rust MYSELF. Although I bought a '78 244 from an old lady who told me through an email that it had one small spot of rust, and she was right. Sort of. If it wasn't clearly visible, it would slip by the cursory inspection.

Vinyl roof = rust.

Even on my Arizona 262c I had minor touches under the (now stripped off) vinyl roof. This is a East-coast car so I'd almost guarantee rust under it. Just my .02.

Good luck!

That's a very nice find my friend. And a GREAT deal. In all honesty I've never like the bertones. They just look so out of proportion with the chop top and the trademark long nose of the 240.

how about Garret T2 turbos (from the 400 series - water and oil cooling) on that car. They are small, but one on an 1,7l gets its boost up quick and @ low RPM's two of them on a 2,3 would be just fine. Cos it starts giving the advantage down low. Would make a nice DD.
