I'm sure Angus has some pics.

Does this mean you'll be selling your alloys? :-P

Alas, though I've done this several times (on my 245, 245, 745, and 764), I don't have any pics.

The reality is that it's not looking gangsta ... it's looking "I'm too cheap to afford a full set of rims".

-- Kane ... or a pair of good tires, in my cases.

The reality is that im glad you understood my ambition to be gangsta and thankyou so much for outlining the underlying reason for my purchasing of steel rims.

And no dauntless not selling them yet!:-P
the reality is again, that I accidentally (oppose to breaking my wheel on purpose) bent one of the rims (same ones as in my sig) and while im waiting to get it fixed VQ on the board said he had a set of steelies for sale and im buying 2 off for a more complete look (instead of 1, yet i dont need 4 because i wont be keeping them on for too long).

After discussing it with him last night i thought Id like to see some pics of other cars on the board

that is NOT gangsta, it is Ghetto, big differance :)

for a street car, running steel rims on the drive wheels is actually from the "ricers" who some think that they get better 1/4 mile drag times running a heavier rim on the front

for a RWD car, the only logical reason to run steelies on the rear with alloys up front is if that is your only option for the correct width or those being race-only tires.

I always understood that the point was to get a smaller diameter tire on the front, thus lowering the gearing. Not to mention, typically people will put a set of slicks onto steel wheels just for the track.

But yeah, run them as spares until you get your wheels back. if you're broke, who cares what it looks like, at least you still have a car.

do not know where you live but i have never seen a ricer with having big fancy wheels up front and steelies in the back .... EVERY one i have ever seen had the steelies up front w/ stock tires on them and some big bling wheels in the back ... and as said another reason is many run slicks on the front steelies and just thier bling wheels on back

re-read the post...it said "drive" wheels, which would indicate the front on a FWD vehicle :)

the only reason i'm running stellies on the back is because the tyres on the rear alloys were sh*gged and i have/had a set of steelies with nearly new tyres on lying around.

here i see asians driving around there hondas with nice rims in front and crappy steelies in the back all the time in the summer. or vise versa stelies infront so i see what he means but i dono if its because they want to run better 1/4 times or if they just cant afford the other 2 rims? because there cars are usually rather shatty.

yes but you also said heavier wheels in the front .. and last time i checked some steelies with stock tires are a lot lighter than 17/18/19" wheels with some big tire on it

excellent quote.

And aside from all those ricer comments, i understood the steelies to be used on RWD cars just to pull burnouts and break trannys.

... hence my closing line about another pair of tires. ;-)

It's to the poit now that I'm down to only (3) Hydras and (1) steelie mounted with usable tires. Pretty much used up the rest already, though all my Volvos have rubber with at least 6/32" left, and both of the GM have new tires.

Steel wheels will flex more than alloy wheels so cars that drive off road will often use steel wheels.
