Had the camra with me today and decided to go around and take some pic's...

I had nothing to do with the rice pipe.. Left it at a friends shop when I was drunk and left the keys in it.. Go back the next day after the hang over and start it up and it sounds good.. Was like WTF.. went around and saw the big ass pipe.. It pissed me off that they messed with my car without asking me... but it sounds better then before so I'm leaving it..

I really don't care bout the negative comments bout my car.. I love it and that is all that matters.. It's a product of me and my personality.. I have to drive it each and every day.. Should be the way I want it to be..

Either some IPD springs soon or cut springs (242GT springs front) (245 springs rear) for a little stiffer ride.. (just need to find some wagon springs or overload springs)

Specs:
Stock b23f
m46
370K miles

So far:
new clutch
Black door panels
Black carpet
Black 90+ crackless dash (well one really small crack)
KMC 15x6.5in Alum. wheels
Flathood
GT grille/fogs/lamps
Clear corners (amber bulb for turn signal white bulb for "park" bulbs)
Leather shift boot
IPD 25mm bar upfront stock in rear
Pioneer head unit
brand new Sony 6x9's in the rear deck
took the trim off the sides.. waiting for them to be welded up
Cone air filter
100Watt lights for the fogs
Rice pipe (again not put on by me)
new center drive support bushing/bearing
brand new Kumho 730's and alignment
new pads in the rear
newer rad.
rack from 78/79 242GT (mine came apart)
GT horn pad
No headliner :-(
New heater hose's (damn those are a bitch it install)

Soon (may or may not be in the near future):
Lowering
SilverStar 7in lamps
weld in trim holes
find black front and rear seats leather or cloth
re-cover and install the armrest
get rid of the cat and muffler
start saving parts for a +T or a b230ft m47 swap
find some trim parts that I am missing
MS

anyway.. here is some pic's enjoy!

Cheers,
Jared

well, minus the fart can, massive amount of stupid stickers (minus the Volvo girl and T bricks), and beige seats/cheap shift knob and missing trim everywhere she looks pretty damn decent. Good work. The last set of pictures are the best. You did a nice job with the front end.

Though I admit the front is getting there.

i thikn it would look better if you painted that flathood and maybe filled in the trim holes. do you have a cone air filter on it? K-cam and intake exhaust would make it a little less lame to drive around. It's what i've got on my Dl and its not terrable to drive, about as fast as my 242t @ 5psi...haven't really stressed that 242 though...

is that just a universal fart can on there? although im not a fan of it, how'd you get it angled up like that? its something i commonly see on eclipses, supras, etc.

well I didn't do the job (and didn't want it done).. and i haven't crawled under the car yet.. could be zipties holding it up.. lmao

I am going to replace the other muffler with some straight pipe after school tomorrow.. then we move on it taking the cat off..

Some Japanese cars can kind of pull off that muffler. Your car cannot.

But hey, matching wheels!

A properly set up hood/grille!

You get 2/3. But thats only 66%. You get a D.

I think I may do the GT front springs and overload springs in the rear and cut about 2in of the springs..

I just need to find some overload springs on the cheap side.. already have the tad bit stiffer GT front springs..

Cat and muffler are deleted..

Now I just have to get some pipe (a 90degree or similar) to dump infront of the right rear tire..

So then it will have no restrictions at all.. just 2in pipe :-D

EDIT://///

Also I just put an order into IPD for some things..

brake booster check valve ~~~~[for 945tic]
cam cover gasket ~~~~[going to put Bcam in the 244GL]
cam: rear (half moon) ~~~~[going to put Bcam in the 244GL]
driver side reverse lens* ~~~~[for the 244tic]
timing belt for 4 cylinder ~~~~[might as well do the belt when I am swaping cams]

anyone have a b230 intake they wanna part with? :-D

Why'd you get that stuff from IPD? You could have gotten it for probably half the price from FCP...

And I've got a crusty hooptie B230 you can have for nothing if you want to pay shipping on it... :e-shrug:

You should go up to 2.25" pipe and a single muffler... straight side pipe on an N/A will be really, really loud... like intolerably loud. Like Drive everywhere with earplugs loud.

Installed them.. I cut about 2.5in off the springs.. it looks like I could droop it 1.5in more..

but I think I will leave it for now..

tomorrow I will do the rear springs and install a rear GT sway (22mm)

I love your 240, man. 240's are my favorite Volvo's, and yours is my idea of an awesome 240. It's got that almost ragged out flat look that I love. Kind of like when drag cars look primered, but it doesn't matter cause they're way cooler than glossy, rich cars.

The 850 I mean.
The 244 doesn't do it for me. In fact, I think it's horrid. I'd probably name it "Juice". Short for JunkyRice. But then that's just personal opinion. Each to his own.

Well coilovers FTW in the case. Of course the suspension geometry is way out of wack at that point. For guys like me who like it low and can stand some bumper steer/loss of handling it isn't a prob. I don't race my car like most turbobricks members who need that perfect roll center.

But if triangle man gets his corrector kit out, of course I'm in. :-D

What's wrong with cut springs? Uh, heaps. Almost every Tbrickster does it because almost every Tbrickster seems to be a) without an income and b) without a car worth putting money into*.

*Well a lot of them. A lot of people on here do have nice cars.

well the car is a 84 244gl with a paint code of 130.. the hood was from a 79 242GT with a paint code of 130.. but the previous owners had the car painted blue (with bad clear coat) and had lots of surface rust.. so I swapped the hood onto my 84 and painted it flatblack.. (I am not trying to go for fake carbon fiber look)

the shift knob was free from a friend and the only reason I use it is because the stock m46 knobs slip off the shaft..

I've been chopping springs since way before da hoe was even on the board.

I'm serious. If you're going to spread incorrect information and advice, back it up. We only have a few hundred generations of science behind spring technology. What do you know that the rest of the engineering world doesn't?

I wonder if Vanlandingham would be willing to rent out the Kevvie bat on a per-use basis?

Because chopped springs give you such a MASSIVE FREAKIN INCREASE IN HANDLING ABILITY, don't they? They do, huh? Yep. I can't wait to chop my springs, screw coughing up the money for a good suspension setup.

Chopping springs is what all the pros do! Because it causes wins! People with real springs are losers!

I don't care how many posts you've made here, and I certainly don't think much of your long history of chopping springs. You can show me some evidence of spring cutting being anything BUT rice before you start trying to talk down to me.

Because chopped springs give you such a MASSIVE FREAKIN INCREASE IN HANDLING ABILITY, don't they? They do, huh? Yep. I can't wait to chop my springs, screw coughing up the money for a good suspension setup.

Do it however you want. Understanding the system is the only way to actually be able to build and adjust it well. You can throw down a huge wad of cash for all the expensive crap that "the pro's" use, then it'll make for killer entertainment when you don't understand why it plows like a pig and has terrible snap oversteer, and you have to call in somebody else to adjust your suspension.
Or, you can learn, test, tweak, learn, test, tweak, and develop a good experience base.

Chopping springs is what all the pros do! Because it causes wins! People with real springs are losers!

-Because, you know, a spring with a few coils removed is a "fake spring"?
-Driver ability is what creates wins. The car is simply a tool. An better driver in a Taurus could hand me my ass in an M5. Meanwhile, I can best The Aspirator in his car with easily double the horsepower, maybe a quarter again (maybe more, who knows?) the maximum grip than mine. He's catching up mighty quick though.

I don't care how many posts you've made here, and I certainly don't think much of your long history of chopping springs. You can show me some evidence of spring cutting being anything BUT rice before you start trying to talk down to me.

You might want to define your usage of the term "rice" before I can tell you how it's not, because our definitions of the term are obviously very different. Chopped springs != underbody neon or a big phatty wing. What do you consider rice?

I'm not arguing that buying a spring in the desired spring length and rate isn't "good" or "better" than chopping a spring, I'm arguing that chopping a spring is "not bad", and you should understand why before you continue to spew what you read on the interwebs.

Oh, and do you think you need backpressure to make torque?

Disco have you ridden in a Volvo with cut springs and proper dampners? My 244 and 242 project car have aftermarket lowering springs. Daily 242 beater is on cut GLT/Turbo springs.

What I'm saying is, I can drive one and jump in the other to feel the difference. If you're looking for a more sporty feel with a decent ride.. a cut spring and nice dampner is what I'd recommend over buying an EST spring or IPD (244 has EST, 242 IPD old style).

I'd suggest saving the money used on springs for coilovers in the future when funds allow.

A performance shop might disagree.. they are possibly taking their cut spring experiences from other makes/models where it might be a bad move. They may also want to sell you something.

It's good you willing to shell out the cash for proper equipment, sometimes corners should not be cut and I agree with that. However in this case I wouldn't put cut springs (on these particular volvos) in that catergory. I would say buy a nicer shock/strut and enjoy the new ride.

2.get rid of hood pins and fill in holes in hood with bondo then repaint hood
3. use sawzall to get rid of the stupid exhaust shield that makes noise
4.on Monday go get a quote on having a straight pipe put on.. having the tip exit infront of the pass rear tire.. might put a glasspack in there somewhere.
5. sand and repaint GT front air dam and install on car
6. remove some stickers (need some razor blades and paint thiner)

I think thats about it for now.. so.. how is the Hoe doing so far? :-P

Haha, sounds great to me. But I hope you arn't removing some of the stuff due to turbobrick influence. If you want to represent a sticker or two, that's your call!

As for the exhaust (and you might know this) straight pipe on a N/A is QUITE loud. Especially a side exit. So definitely I would definitely recommend at LEAST one muffler/glasspack.

My N/A 242 has a full lenth drivers side rear exit exhaust (so enough turns), originally had a single glass pack in the back... I had to add another muffler since it was to much for me. Then again I like a fairly quiet exhaust so I can still drive normal at night without disturbing neighbors. It is still lots louder then stock though.

Car is looking better and better though, don't let anyone (including me) influence what you really want done to your car. My taste 5 years ago is also much different then now.

Defend it if you believe it, or change your mind. We're here to discuss and learn from each others experience and knowledge. Smoooooth...

Anyway, the car is definitely looking better. I say cut another half a coil off the front springs though... ;-)

And maybe take out something to measure the diameter of your rear bar, because there was never a 23mm GT rear bar, only a 21 and a 23. Also, you might want to check your 25/"23" IPD bars for sale, as IPD only sells a 25/22 set and a 25/25 set.

Remember that by shortening the springs (cutting), your reducing the effectiveness of the struts. Just to keep in mind, cutting a bit is fine but don't go overkill and blow the struts in a month.

I doubt the hoe is doing it for the handling improvement.

Hopefully.

nope..

see driver side mount is toast.. only thing holding the motor is the trans mount and passenger side mount

the drive shaft would hit the tunnel on the passenger side

so the yellow strap acts as the driver side mount

and the red strap pulls the front of the motor over so the drive shaft will be further away from the passenger side inside the tunnel

:-D

alright. you're trying to sell your car.... 1500 dollars.....

i've got some problems with it....

first of all, its got 370K miles. in that video, it looks like you ****in revved the hell out of it.

second of all, how the hell are you going to sell a car....a 23 year old volvo.... for $1500 with a non-existant drivers side motor mount?

third of all, you say that that dent in the seam of the car was already there. but did the piping conveniently come with the bottom scraped already?

the scuff on the pipe is from taking a hard left turn going from flat ground to a slight hill and the pipe nicked the ground..

driver's side motor mount is there.. just the metal and rubber are not fused together anymore..

in the vid the highest hit rev was 5.4grand

EDIT/ADD..and also the pipe that sticks out.. (now trimmed back some) is very solid.. if someone was to grab it and shake it the whole car would shake.. (not tremendous shaking but slight movement)
