alright, so i'm pretty frustrated at this point.
we hook a timing light up. we dont get a spark, except ocassionaly when i shut the key off.
we've tested to make sure the MSD box is getting cranking power (yes)
we've tested to make sure the M.S. box is getting cranking power (yes)
we tested the yellow wire [pin 30] off of M.S. to see if it gets voltage. It only gets voltage when we arent cranking - while cranking voltage goes to zero
if you guys dont know... pin 30 connects to the MSD 6A box, via it's white wire.
any suggestions?

if you add/remove ground from the trigger on msd it should spark, that would be a first look, the see if mtune sees any cranking rpm

neither shane or i know what youre saying ben....
i get a cranking RPM also. just so everyone knows...

Hey Seth.... I dont' know jack **** about MSD... but I'd like to be able to help you.
Can you guys remove the MSD from the system and try going at it from there? Once you get it running, then add the msd back in.

shane and i just had breakfast
we stopped at radio shack and got some 1K ohm resistors
the resistor needs to be tied to pin 30 from a 12V source. its not picture in my wiring diagram cuz its the bosch ****, not MSD
so lets see if this works!
ill have updates in 30

putting a 1K ohm resistor inbetween pin 28 (red/power) to pin30 (yellow/spark sending wire) doesnt do it...
pin 30 (yellow) still looses power while cranking

i grounded the white wire coming off of MSD - i do get a spark when i do that.
thus MSD is functioning.
so wtf....

YES
ok, so we got spark and fuel. CAR STARTED
but
i hit the gas a bit and it roared then shut off...
my required fuel WAS too high, and i gave it gas...
i pulled the plugs out, they were dirty. cleaned them up and they looked pretty new...
are the plugs messed up? think my TPS wiring is backwards?

nah You shouldn't even worry about the acceleration enrichment yet. Just start tuning. Don't use the car for any long drives.

yea i unplugged the TPS
still nothing.
wtf
anybody have any MSQs they could toss me?

Seth, you may have to play with the req fuel a bit... If it started once, it should start again.
Did you play with the cranking pulsewidths at all? You may be flooding it... I'd go back to the basics recommended in the www.megasquirt.info page.
I'd also set the accel enrich TPS threshold to 30 to prevent any accel enrich when you step on the throttle.
To ensure it has plenty of air on startup, jam a screwdriver or something in the throttle blade... but not enough to get sucked into the engine.
It may be better to post your msq so we can see what you're working with... what version of the code are you using? 029q? 029t? 029v?
sethfc

the latest code... 029v
i unplugged the TPS
i didnt change the pulse widths (i'm using your MSQ mike)
required fuel is at 11 (it was at 12 when it started and soaked the plugs)
i dont know what else bro

Seth, what kind of injectors do you have?
try changing it around higher and lower.. you do have a battery charger right?
Once you have it running, you can readjust the req_fuel...
try it.
EDIT... if it's flooding at 12, lower it to 10 or 8

Seth...
you mentioned you're using my msq... you did change around the codebase to reflect your actual settings right? mine is set to generic wheel... yours should be in distributor mode with what I think is Fidle as your spark A.

mike
all those were set properly
problem was... I BLEW THE FUSE GOING TO THE INJECTORS. this happend when i hit the TPS. the TPS was wired backwards
now here's the issue
TPS unplugged mind you
we start it up, rev rev, and hold
when we hold, car dies
ARF are between 1.2 and 4.
i remember seeing somewhere in the settings where i could select wide band or narrow band... but i dont remember how to get there. for some reason i remember narrow band being selected
any ideas mike? it just seems lean...

Seth do you have a wideband?
If yes, go to "basic settings" then "exhaust gas settings" and set your crossover point to 2.5v... or whatever you wideband is at.
You also need to go into the megatune configurator and change over to the wideband you're using.

ok ill do that mike
we just started it and held at 2K rpms. AFR was 2.6 but it didnt die
let me go change those settings
sethfc
03-03-2007, 08:55 PM
so we went to the "configurator"
it brought us to an .ini file
we have no idea where to go from here
one interesting thing we saw was it said i had a 350Cubic Inch motor. does that affect my tune? cuz that is so wrong..
let me know

Seth,
this is a screenshot of the configurator where you change the lambda sensor.
Also... make sure you click on "code variant" on the lhs and make sure it says msns-extra up top.
And Seth... when you say AFR... do you mean actual air-fuel ratio or the wideband voltage?
Mike

when i say AFR i mean whats poppin up on megatune (on the guage) as ive got the car going
ill look into that stuff in a bit after i eat some food. im starvin

also
when i rev it i have to be very light with the pedal. anything above 3K is kinda hard to maintain
frequently the RPMs will drop after holding my foot in one position for a while
if i plug in the TPS/calibrate do you think it'll work better? i'll want to use whatever settings you have already mike

Seth... info on the configurator page is here... http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup.html you need to check up on it.
Essentially, the configurator is just a front-end software that lets you edit the msns.ini file easily.
The key things you need to do are to "activate" the right version of the code you're using
ensure under Car1>settings.ini>settings that the CODE VARIANT is msns-extra.
if you want your AFR to be displayed as actual AFR instead of voltage, choose the correct lambda sensor. What you're seeing right now is just the wide band 0-5v voltage.
Do you get errors when you open up megatune at all?
The TPS does sound a bit wonky... While the TPS ADC should increase as you step on it, it should be something more like from 50ish to 170ish. Flood clear mode (shuts off injectors) is triggered around a TPS ADC count of 155. You need to take another look at it. Best to try starting it from now on with the TPS unlugged until you resove that issue.
Seth, the msq file is pretty small... can you upload it here as an attachment?
MS has a pretty steep learning curve... but if you keep immersing yourself in it, you'll learn more... keep at it.

Hello Seth,
It was nice talking to you on the phone. Good luck with the TPS stuff we talked about. As for the LC1, the screen shot that Mike provided is of the MegaTune Configurator. It is easy to use it to set the LAMDA_SENSOR variable to TECHEDGE_LINEAR. It should be self explanitory once you open the program up. Also, in the Exhaust gas settings page of MegaTune you want to set the EGO Sensor Type to WideBand and the EGO Switch Point (v) to 2.509. Other than that, calibrate the LC1 using the manufacturer's procedure.
