 Well I guess this is my time to introduce myself. I stumbled onto this site last night while looking around for crazy volvo modification ideas. I grew up around volvo's (all my parents ever drove), and almost got a t5r when it sold out from under me and I then ended up with what I have now. I myself drive a honda del sol and added a 14b turbo to it much alike your F+T setups you guys are using. Suprised me that it was done in the volvo world, and is also a very good idea. High Compression+Turbo <3 ;) Anyway. I'm considering a volvo 240 high boost project. My goal is high 13's low 14's. What 240 would be the best route as well as what engine. I'm sure F+T will definatly be my going route but need help on choosing a motor, and the lightest car I can find. What would you guys suggest for me? I'm going to attempt to stay low budget (as with anything I do :X ). Also what do you guys use for engine management to supply more fuel?

Hello,
In regards to which engine to use the B23E/F is a good starting point due to forged internals, couple this with a 90+ exhaust manifold and 15G and a b230 intake manifold.
This should be a good budget set up.
Now I'm not sure which of the volvo shells is lightest but I think the 3 series are very light but I don't think they were available outside europe, but the next closest would probably be a 1 or 2 series.
As far as fuelling there are a couple of people using stock engine management with larger injectors ie CFI 46lb injectors or brown top 35lb injectors, but the best solution for fuelling on a budget has to be Megasquirt, a DIY fuel management system that can also control spark.
But you should be able to find nearly all the right info on the FYI newbie post at the top of the main page, i think it'll cover nearly all of the questions with more depth.

Thanks for the info sharing. Just got done reading the newbie thread actually. Megasquirt seems to intrest me. I like tunability. :) What car were the B23E/F motors in? The 2 series will probably be my route. Because I've never been able to find 1 series cars anywhere. :e-shrug: Hopefully I can get this project off the ground around Summertime. But the Honda keeps asking for more money. Stupid car. :( This may also be a little off topic but how hard is it to find the 2 door 240's? I beleive these were the flat hood GT's correct? How much do these typically go for?
The B23F was available in '83 and '84, but a late model (~90+) B230F should do just fine also.
Two-doors were made in small numbers from '75-'84. They are a bit tougher to find - they didn't make many, and consequently, the high price of accident repairs on the unique sheetmetal pieces sent a lot to the junkyard before their time. It will just take a little longer to find one, that's all.
The GT was a particular 242, produced from '78-'80. Yes, it had the flat hood. It also featured a bit of unique suspension tuning, depending on the year, like different sway bars, front springs and shocks. They were nearly all silver in color with black and orange stripes, with a black corduroy interior and red/orange accents. They are around, but it's getting hard to find a really good one.

What about say rebuilding the B230F and putting it into a 240? My mom has one in her 940 that she will be getting rid of shortly. The car itself is in terrible condition. (she never takes care of her cars). But the motor is there, has some busted mounts.
