HEY, i saw this pic...mayday know the link to it..but it had a full normal set of guages for a 242Ti.....but then it had the vents covered up by a whole nother set of guages :???: ....I WOULD DEF. like to know how to do this to my 242 ti. please tell me how.

oooo... a lil story....my mom me and my bro went to Wal-Mart, well we some out and our 240 Gl(i think) Wagon with 302,500 miles on it would not start. so we call my dad the volvo man, and he comes out to see what he can do. So he puts the charger on the battery and puts some starting fluid in the intake hose and...notin...the engine wont turn, so we check the coil and he said he doesnt think there is a spark on the coil...therefore it wont start. Well, i would like to know waht to do about this, soo i can give my dad some helpful advise on this car.
I pretty sure there is a break in the coil wire...thats why u have to fight a war to get the thing started!!!

A helpfull hint for a noob is less than a noob than me :???: :-P
To help ur car start easier, turn the battiery on for 8sec, this allows the activation of the fuel pump to start pumping fuel into the car, give it some gas and turn it off, reapeat these steps 2 or 3 times, and ur car should start quicker...or at least easier.

He didn't do much, just jammed em in there. Here's the thread (a good read about creative guage mounting):

The intank prepump makes starting under 1/4 or 1/8 of a tank take a little longer. It's a bitch, but you forget that it's a pain until you step into any other vehicle and it starts in half a second.

the second set of gauges weren't connected I don't think, but it shows that it is possible.

Ahh, you guys remembered that pic eh? Yeah, those are completely real. I didn't bother to hook the bottom ones up, just wanted to see if it was possible and how hard it was. It's so easy, if you have the second set on hand, just take out the vents and it's very obvious what needs to be done. Just drill two holes and put screws in em. Then hook up the wiring. Looked killer on my car, I just wish they worked and were all different! Then my girlfriend made me put the heater vents back in cause it's cold here now! I didn't argue, the vents are nice now. My only tip is if you're planning a permanent installation, get some caps for the heater tubes so that they don't shove hot air onto the gauges all the time.. just a thought.

And I have no idea what's up with your dads car, sorry buddy!

John

PS, how do you guys like my power window switches?? Custom mounted of course, I love em.

the engine wont turn[/quote:56fb97e1a2]

Did you check for spark? Pull out a plug (probably unplug at least one other so that this won't be the one special time it starts), hold the threads up against a grounded part of the engine, and crank a few times. That will tell you whether or not you're getting spark. If not, go to a junkyard and grab another coil, they're not too expensive. Try it, and if that doesn't work, you've got more troubleshooting to do.

Good Luck
