I'm running an l28et in a 73 240z. I realize this isn't a brick but I'm posting here in case someone can help me. I'm getting a crank signal through a cherry hall effect sensor and mags placed in the crank pulley.

I'm getting fuel. I am not getting spark. If I manually ground the white wire on the msd 6al box, I get spark. This is the method recommended by msd to check to see if the box\coil setup works.

If I crank the starter with ms turned on, just to get some fuel in the cyls, I can ground the white wire a couple times and get the crank to turn. However, I don't want to do this, I'd rather not have a manually controlled engine setup.

Can someone run through the settings with me to get msns-e to trigger a 6al box? I've got dwell set to fixed duty at 50%, fidle output set to spark a, spark output inverted.

I'm hoping this is a quick answer, something i'm just totally missing.

Are there other settings to play with? I'm totally convinced my problem is simply ms not telling the 6al how to trigger the right way.

Your output settings sound more or less correct, I think you need to dial in your trigger angle.

possibly, but it's just straight up, not sparking, at all. also, the trigger angle is setup from when the motor was running before on hei. long story as to why i switched, don't ask.

Did you switch because the HEI wasn't working either?

I soldered up x12 to - of led17 and it started sparking. now to get the sucker to start up.

So i got it to start, but the sucker stays at 15* btdc no matter what (it's actually way more advanced than that, but it says it's locked at 15). I come to find out that it's reading the rpm as ~260 at idle. This can't be true because the engine won't idle that low, and I know it's more like 600-700. I think it's stuck in cranking mode and is locking the advance at 15, since it's reading the rpm to be under 300. I sanded down my magnets on the pully a little, with no luck. I'm thinking maybe it's just not reading one for some reason? or maybe not reading two... Any suggestions?

Double check your basic setup stuff. Number of cylinders, etc.

Does this hall trigger have the same number of "doors and windows" as there are cylinders? All evenly spaced?

straight six, three magnets, evenly spaced, 120* apart
