weeee few hours of work ... and install looks pretty good .. i could of done a better job on the pipe that comes off the downpipe but i did not really care. it does not leak i just need to weld one quick support later and i am good .. otherwise off for some highway test drives

so yea ugly but was in a rush and who the f cares ... downpipe was tucked about 3 inches closer to the body than i had it so i am happy with that .. and the cutout is NOT the lowest part of the exhaust which is always good news

Can you show a picture of it actuated?

I want to see what full open looks like. Going to have it dump right there our route it to the side?

eitherway the packaging looks good.

Cool!

Why not use a hobbs switch or something to make it boost-activated?

There's no need to shorten the lifespan of an electric cutout by having it open every time you get into boost.

The other debate is to whether it actually gives the car any power or not, and what it does to the boost (the whole backpressure argument). I personally gained 10rwhp/10rwtq with my cutout on my EXTREMELY crappy exhaust system, I'm sure it would have gained more with a full 3'' exhaust.

Anyway, hopefully dyno results will be shown in good time so we can see what it really does. It is cool anyway.

Nice install man, I wish mine was tucked up that much! Which brand did you end up going with? I have just stock exhaust behind my cutout and I picked up 17rwhp with it open over stock ;-)

Mike bad ass. Do you have to hold it to open then rehold it to close?

I've got an idea scheming in my head for one of the output puts on the V500 for the 120... hehehe I'll IM you about it next time your on

thelostartof
04-28-2007, 09:00 PM
haha yes you have to old it open .. tho a 6-7 sec timer would do the trick as it only takes 4-5 seconds to close

Because it takes 6-7 seconds to have it fully open from fully closed.

Beside, knowing mike, he'll leave the cut-out open as long as possible. :-D

Nice.. Does it sound like a semi truck in tunnels? :) I'm pretty sure I get better city mileage with it open, but I think my freeway mileage is better with it closed, kind of weird. ~1600rpm

I'm so glad you poseted those videos, good quality too. I like how in one of them the idling exhaust blows the sharpie around a little bit. Truely badass, well done, nice fab work. Have you given any little kids or old ladies a good scare?

having been in the car....and seeing the way you try to keep the turbo spooled up at all times...what did the Total mileage go up to? My guess is 7 miles the gallon!

thelostartof
05-05-2007, 07:29 PM
haha 19.5mpg is the new mpg vs the old of 18.4

i drive more like an old man most of the time ... either way when people are in the car i tend to push it a bit more

05-05-2007, 11:04 PM
next one i do will be 3.5" cutout right off the 3.5" downpipe vs the 3" off the 3" section ... will have a larger opening on the pipe so more air flow and more power

amargill19?
05-05-2007, 11:06 PM
hmmmm...

That's smart, so you can dump the exhaust right at the downpipe and then close it up for inspection and have the exhaust back to the whole cat and everything.

Brilliant.

impulse922
05-05-2007, 11:08 PM
i'll buy the downpipe when you're ready for that new one ;-)
