my black 944 was giving me some issues recently
so after it failed a leakdown test it was decided to pull the head to investigate

i was just too happy that it was something so simple
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j220/tiebird256/black944issues012.jpg
I put a flat edge to the block and to the head and neither are warped
so i cant really figure out WTF caused it to fail
I think i'm going to have the head surfaced anyways just to be safe
despite the 1" section of missing HG... the car would still accelerate to 100mph....

wow that looks bad....
btw, how much play do the pistons have? (can you wiggle the pistons in the bore?). I pulled the head od my 150K mile turbo engine and i was surprised that i could wiggle the pistons around quite a bit.....

we decided that the correct term was "disolved"
blown would indicate that something cool happened and it exploded and killed people or something

maybe 1-3 thou of play
dam little....
the cross hatching is still fully visable, the engine only has 113k on it

I am tired of these jokes about my giant hand. The first such incidence occured in 1956...

The 80-90k 1996 B230FK we picked up had 'a little' piston wobble. The 200k 1989 B230ET which came out had a fair bit more. That scientific enough for you ;-)
cheers

it was an AW71
though it was this effing car that we did the tranny on that caused the accident....
the car wishes my death..... :grrr:
after selling the gemeni's to Lostartof that came with the car
i think i paid $350 for it
so the cheapness of the car has made it worthwille

;ools like youve got a bit of an oil leak on the turbo side of the block. I guess this would be a good time to sort that out.

If the head is straight I wouldn't get it cut. If you do you may need an adjustable cam gear to get the timing back to stock. Depends on how much the shop machines it of course but it's better to avoid any if you can.

Stock HG? I'd expect running a ton of boost on an old gasket would do something like that...
Maybe it's time for something beefier...

.030 off head == 1 degree retarded
volvo says junk the head if you need to take off more than .032
i'm planning to have .010 taken off to get a nice clean flat surface
having the head shaved .025 on my 94 940 actualy made it run a fair bit better than stock
