So lets start i guess at the beginning of my search and work my way up to some pictures.....
I havent had a volvo to work on since the august flood on the east coast which took away the red 244. I had done so much to that car and just would not die no matter how much abuse it went through mainly with my younger sister. heck even the windows and electronics were working after the flood ......
Sad day RIP

And now to start i guess the real story--really to be honest after that and even before that i wasnt much into thinking of volvos i jumped on the forum here and there but wasnt really occupied with them. Was more into Hondas and crxs mainly but with recent things happening (crap deals, getting screwed around with and such). Hondas became more like a chore to deal with; I wasnt really into the culture and around where i live its gotten terrible. Too many kids thinking they are hot crap and their crap dont stink, or they are the fastest around. And another thing was i had come to realize i like small cars but me being 6'5" they just dont like me. so i decided i would offer up everything i owned and sell it (had two crxs and a basement and two sheds full of honda parts......) and start looking for a new car. I went through many ads for rx7s 240sx's and such but nothing really caught my eye. until ebay the lovely bastard made me realize with a 242gt being auctioned off that my heart really loved the 242's and that was that i started the hunt, didnt win the gt of coarse. but started talking with raceman on here about his 242 he had posted. it was approx a 8hour drive there and back and after much talking, i decided to greyhound it down and drive the car back. which since the gps wasnt packed, i got lost and the 8 hour trip became a 10-12hour trip but none the less i loved every minute of driving in the car. who needs a radio when you have sweet music coming out that exhaust. (forgot to mention this is brick ross).....But anyhow i got it back to new york and started my search for parts. had money to burn and burn it, i did. Purchased a few things from redwoodchair and other members as well as ebay and alot of other things from my junkyard. well my first purchase was a oem spare tank to restore and use(bought this way before i got the 242 so i guess you could say i definitely made up my mind to getting one when i got this.

and here are some pictures the day after i got it back(baseline)

and so i set about to make this car to the point where nothing was broken and spruce it up some

i dont know if it was first but definitely an annoying hassle of climbing in through the passenger side to open the drivers side (door handle fixed new issue found)

Well theres the issue and before taking that out i think im going to be making some custom door panels here in the near future as mine are all for lack of a better work gone

and door handles have been replaced with the chrome instead of the black

next up was the hood hinges and the hood popper as i was given a metal rod to use as a popper and a hood prop and since i found what i needed in my local junkyard i decided to fix this.
old cable(no wonder everything was broken on it was very rusty and well rather seized)

the replacement which looked brand new

the old hood hinges there still good and all but the springs where taken out

oh and the metal rod was useful for holding the hood while i swapped things out too

so now my hood is able to be popped easily and held open so i can work and get to things
thanks to these

next was a quick fix to get the door armrest/pulls to well not feel like i was about to either rip them in half or something worse.
the fix use a power window armrest pull and cut it down to work since yes they will go right in but the window crank will hit due to the extension.

finished product(great for the time being until i find something that suites what i would like

found under dash panels as well and though the dside was for an auto i just extended a cut and made it work for my manual pedal assembly cleans things up alot

and today i went to visit my junkyard as i have been watching a volvo make its way through processing into the yard and scored some nice things such as much needed oem floor mats(learn something new everyday apparently the 244 mats work in the 242 which is great for me.

also purchased some Volvo sound rear shelf speakers to replace the well work and sun damaged oem speakers that are in the back that for sure have been in there for at least 10 years.

everything seems fine to me

my trunk is getting full with parts of which i collected for the many projects i plan to do....

and yes that is a electric fan as mine has probably seen almost all 30 years of the cars life so instead of buying another fan clutch and fan i decided to opt for more space in the engine bay plan is to cut down the 940 turbo shroud to fit the radiator. Saab 900 coolant temp housing and switch along with relays can never have enough spares....

and after i got back from the junkyard i found a nice package containing my new to me used cluster so i can have a gauge again to tell me the speed. its quite unnerving going by cops on the highway not knowing your speed for 10-11 hours with just a tach lol.....
only issue was the circuit board was not designed for my car well everything looked similar so i decided cant hurt to swap things around and make everything the way i want it.(still awaiting my tach i purchased off ebay)

and installed

I opted for the older style cluster setup for style and in my opinion i like the orange caution area on the temp gauge; and the division of the gas gauge is better as well.

and lastly as i was really wearing myself down i decided to finally install my gt wheel i had in storage for awhile.
before

after

well that was alot to post but then again ive had the car for a week and a few days so i guess i work fast but theres plenty more to come for sure as i make this my own brick. and i must say that i love my 242.

After some research i found it near Rome, stopped from two or three year in the yard of a workshop.. the previous owner had given it to his son but he wanted a Citroen 2hp :wtf:.. so i bought it for 500 euro and start to have fun!.. in these two year i do many maintenance work (distribution, belts, spark plugs, distributor ecc) but the engine is dirty of oil sludge and from 2 month the head gasket starts to leak.. so i decided to stop the car and rebuilt totally the engine

Unfortunately in Italy we have a severe code in matter of cars modification and homologation, so for now i decided to maintain it a N/A brick

Step1

Engine
-A cam
-Simons Sport exhaust catless
-New radiator, hoses, stuff
-New clutch

Chassis
-New shocks
-Sport springs (-4cm)
-IPD Sways 25/25
-Poli Bushing kit
-25/30mm spacers
-BBS Propus or BBS E26(work in progress) rims

Step2 (probably after this summer)

-VX cam
-IPD adjustable cam gear
-Header exhaust manifold
-Performance sparkplug cables
-K&N air filter
-Bilstein HD
-Ate powerdisk rotors
-1 coil less on the front springs

The day i bought it
