  • I did end up going with the 38's. I also had 30 thou skimmed. All up the bill was $450 or so with new studs, hot tanking, assembly/dissasembly, deshrouding on the exhaust, 3 angle valve jobs all round, throating on the exhaust and the bigger valves. The valves were around $10 each. If you can get them for that much, i'd suggest going bigger on the intake too. Im not sure where my valves came from because the guy in the shop got them for me, but the shop was called "nothside cylinder head services" (I have their number if you want it) and the valves were for a ford escort (great fit). If your porting it yourself take a look at this http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=148202 and http://forums.turbobricks.com/showth...e+head+porting. Otherwise be looking to cough up an extra $300. I also suggest talking to Gary at Volpro, he knows heaps about headwork (http://www.volpro.com.au/)

    Anyway, hope that helps.
    Hi Brendan,

Ha ha ha... I just used GLT to try and make it easier to visualise. I thought the GLT was a GL 'touring' (ie a wagon), I didn't think the T stood for Turbo... My mistake.

    Its a 1990 240 GL wagon, with a 5 speed 'box.

I just read the 'cutting springs' thread, and I think I might go that way first (I know its ghetto, and I have always been dead against it. But now that I know how much to cut, and the changers in spring rate etc.. I think it could be a reasonable option).

I'll try some of the suspension shops around the place to find out what the best options are for shocks etc, and I'll read your thread on the Falcon sway bar mod.

Is the lower brace like the one they sell on iPd?? The 3 bars, in a sorta H formation?? Or was their actually a OEM Volvo brace. The wagon I'm looking at has the 2 braces in the engine bay, from strut tower to firewall, but I wonder how much an actual strutbrace would help things... Maybe the springs, sways, shocks, bushes and balljoints should all be fixed first!!

Thanks for your help... off to read the Swaybar thread!!

    Hey mate...

Might be getting a 240 GLT manual shortly, and I'l be lowering and stiffening it for a bit of fun!!

Your Volvo has King springs, yeah?? Are you happy with how much lower they are?? Are they noticably lower, or not really that noticble.

Have you tried pedders or whiteline swaybars?? I'll be looking to fit them too, and some stiffer shocks (probably monroe GT gas) How are the Bilsteins?? How expensive??

Are the upper and lower braces worth the money?? Did you buy them from IPD??

Any thoughts you have will be great, as I have NO experience in Volvos!!

    many Thanks,

    Nick
