The $700 1988 245

Just bought it. $700, came with a bunch of oil filters and 6 ****ty tires on steelies. Also a radiator and some other things. Nearly 300k on the body, if the odo is right. Has a turbo engine of unknown year and unknown mileage at stock boost for now. Side pipe with a cherry bomb, locker, and the sloppiest shifter I've ever seen. It's rusty, but significantly less so than my $200 '86. It's gonna be pretty awesome.

Hahah weird! I'm from Canada, and someone was picking up some parts we made at the shop. He noticed my Volvo and he's into them too, he ended up showing me this fprsale on Craigslist. As soon as I saw the wheels and colour I knew it was the same one!

Heh, when was this? Guy I got it from bought it about a year ago.

The paint is in pretty bad shape. The hood is scratched to hell from stuff being on it and the roofs clearcoat is all oxidized. I guess scratches beat having a dozen little rust bubbles, right?

Does it have a piece of wood for a rear bumper? If so, I highly suspect it's been for sale on Turbobricks before.

Yup, yup. If anyone can find the FS thread, I'd appreciate it.

I spy a BOV, and I'm pretty sure BOV's mess with sensors on stock volvo engine management systems.

Yeah, IDK. It's at 6-7PSI.

How can I tell if the gauge cluster is original? I kinda wanna know if it actually has 300k. I ran the VIN and there's no records before something like 260k.

Pull it and look for junkyard paint pen markings on the back.

Yup, I'll do that. I'm pretty sure the tach was added in because it has the little clock hole on the left. Was gonna take it out anyway to fix the trip reset.

Are you just saying that because 240s always need new motor mounts?

Even though its going to need some work, it looks to be a decent buy. Even including a rare accessory cargo cover.

Is there a way to ID the cam without taking the timing cover off?

TwoFour-T 01-11-2017 07:05 PM

I owned this car from January to September 2016, I believe the guy I bought it from put some kind of cam in it, there was a stock one in the pile of parts I sold it with. I was reading DailyTurismo and saw it, glad to see it go to another TurboBricks member. When I had it it had a vacuum leak, the gas tank leaked from the left side and the gas gauge didn't work- fix those if they haven't been done. Take good care of it, and feel free to ask me any questions!

Not that I can think of. ....take off valve cover and use a mirror to see what's stamped on the back. Easiest way I would guess

Sweet. Gas gauge seems to work, but I dunno about accuracy yet. Guy told me about the gas tank leak, my 86 has that too. Guy I got it from said the same thing about the cam, stock one came in a box of stuff with the car according to him.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for/sell this thing for? And why'd you sell it?

Anyone know the user of the guy that had it before TwoFour here?

TwoFour-T 01-12-2017 12:18 PM

PM'd you, let me know if you didn't get it.
