HUB's 1968 122s Wagon Project

Hello Everyone,

Picked up 122s in early november in 2014 after stumbling across Keith602 project and fell in love instantly. It's the complete opposite of what I have done and very excited as to what the future will bring with this build. My step father has been extremely helpful with this car (has restored and own Volvo's most of his life). Still learning a lot of things about this car and wouldn't be possible without everyone's support. Thank you!

Didn't even have the car more than 24 hours and we already started tinkering with it.

Dizzy and Alternator

This has been the fun the last few days.

The coil will be put in the where the original OEM was. Just have it moved off to the side while I worked on other things and make a plate. Also put in new wires, plugs, and cap.

In the process of converting the car over to an alternator. Still researching the wiring layout...

Took the car to grab our first Christmas tree. The family loves it. Pic of my stepfather loading all puppies in the car.

Got the new coil bracket in. Looks a lot better now. Then started working on the interior lights. The switches just needed cleaning.

Weber Downdraft conversion

Well I started the process of getting everything bolted with the help of my step father. The process was a lot of fun.

Well we had two helpers that joined us, but they didn't offer a lot of help. Haha.

Replaced the motor mounts and switched over to a electric fan...

Bolted up the header and the tried to put on the manifold for the new carb. Ran into a little problem. Manifold wouldn't bolt up due to flanges on the bottom hitting the flanges on the header. I wasn't happy considering this should "bolt right up." O well... Nothing the grinder couldn't fix...

After that, it was pretty straight forward with getting everything bolted up. Ran temporary lines just to see if it would start and would clean it up later... At least, that is what we thought the plan would be...

Car started and was trying to do the timing and get everything dialed in, but the car wasn't running right. It felt like a cylinder wasn't firing.

I wasn't able to do a compression test, so we pulled all the plugs and did it by "feel." We couldn't feel anything from cylinder 4. So we knew the head had to come off.

Thanks,

No compression in cylinder 4- Removal of head

Removal of Front Suspension and B18 Engine

Update: The head was cleared as good for no cracks. So I guess that is good. However, the entire valve train is ****. So will start ordering parts next week.

I felt frisky today, so I got a cigar, made some coffee, and went to town.

Also stumbled across a new heater valve. So i picked that up and will rip the entire heater box out... Still trying to figure how this bloody thing comes apart... May need some Scotch

Awsome project! That color looks really nice on it!

Thanks. The family has dubbed it the short bus. Lol.

So we can call them the 'window lickers' when they ride in it!?

The project is nice, but I'm in for more pics of those newfies.

Lol. Thanks. They're my parents dogs. My stepfather brings them when he comes for the weekend to tinker with the Volvo. I'm sure they will pop up in future pictures.

Labeling and Origination of Dash Harness

Not a lot to report today. Spent most of the day cleaning and organizing. Did get the harness extended and organized today. Tested it and everything works except for the fan.

Thanks,

I see your car has an updated wiper mechanism that I've never seen before. The older ones are crank with gear reduction and have multiple places they can work loose, so the wipers are very imprecise and floppy. I need to know if it's possible to get one of those newer mechanisms somewhere.

It came with the car. Don't know anything about it. They also gave me a spare of the same unit. Don't know if it works. I'll try it and see what info is listed on it. If it does work, I don't need two.
