242 GT build

My 242 I bought back in 2008 and my first Volvo I bought. I paid only $350 for the car. The car was left with a half a tank of gas for five years. After switching fuel tanks and pumps and some basic maintenance it was my daily driver through high school.
My goal was to do a resteration project with my dad that has great talent with bodywork. When it came to building a motor my first thing I wanted was a turbo motor. I begain to wanting to do something different but still volvo. I decided to do a N/A build.

Been doing resarch of what redblock based motor I'm going to use. I thought of doing a junkyard 10.3:1 b23f but I wanted to build a motor to my liking instead of pulling one from the junkyard. I found out about volvo penta redblock with 86mm cranks and decent flowing heads. Looked on CL and found a AQ151C and paid $500 for the whole engine.
When building the motor I've decided to use b230ft pistions instead of aftermarket and the same for the rods. The b230ft pistons required some machining because of the longer stroke on the crank.

Here is the specs of the motor

B230f squirter block
86mm penta crank
13mm rods
First OS pistons

531 marine head
38/46 SS valves
AGAP camshaft
11:1 CR

Should make 170+ at the wheels. I'm sure I need a different intake instead of the stock b230.

What would anyone recommend on injector size I should run. I may run 50 shot of nitros with this motor for fun.
I'll be running LH2.4 to start with.

Pretty sure you will be fine with orange tops, maybe some from a P2 2.5T for better atomization.

Going to have Portland driveline make me one.

If you need a getrag kit I have one extra plate. Still need to make the spacer ring and the brass input bushing

Thats going to be a sick motor! Very clean!

Great build, nice to see a different avenue being taken. My uncle has been telling me to just NOS, ever since I started asking for help on my +T, very nice.

Harlard 12-03-2013 02:41 PM

I want a ride in this thing as soon as you are done breaking in the motor, Scottaylor.

dbradford32 12-03-2013 04:50 PM

This really makes me want a penta! Looks killer! :)

Talk about production..

Poisunes 01-19-2014 11:28 PM

Did you take all the struts from cars in Boring? Went out there the other day and someone raided several cars.

I pulled those struts for RSI not for myself. The three sets I have are form cars I parted out.

Machined sleeve seats

Hoggster 02-28-2014 04:28 PM

Do you have pics of the sides of the pistons after machining? I'm curious about how much meat you have between the crown and first ring groove.

77volvo245 03-20-2014 02:30 AM

Still need to finish up the coilovers so they can be ready for powder coat. Need to paint my alternator bracket and alternator case and reassemble it back together. I'm using my reproduction PS bracket and had it anodize black.

I do not have any pictures of the pistons out of the block after being machined. I added a few more pictures to the original post above. I also got this in the mail.

48mm ITBs from Jenvey with 60mm horns. The intake was from motor nord in Sweden, will be needing to clean the casting ports on the intake.
