The 75 242 DL

Images should be updated soon... for the time being, you can view the story here: https://www.projectmoro.com/1975-242[/B]

More images are here: https://imgur.com/a/ucHSz

I bought a supposedly running car from a forum member to replace my totaled 82 244turbo.

1975 242 DL with a B20, k-jet, auto, and only 49,800 original miles supposedly.

Here is the car when I got it.

Nothing worked on the car. Mold in the carpets. Rear calipers frozen, Distributor drive gear broke, Fiber gear was missing teeth. Engine was gross. Carbon build up and slugged oil. Gas tank rusted. Injector and feed lines ruined.

It took way to long to get it running, but it is running now.

Some wiring is left, and the supercharger and rear brakes. Then it will be done.

2.5 years of waiting to drive it. It is fun to drive.

Looks amazing. Nice work

sksmith 01-03-2016 09:00 PM

What was leaking causing the molding carpet?

TIPSP 01-03-2016 09:04 PM

Here is when it was first started after 2.3 years.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0YBHoNutqvo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Without resonator. and first rebuilt fuel distributor I did. We Rebuilt Kjet distributor once, and cleaned out the injectors (thanks Ian). Also opened and cleaned the CPR. I bought a new rebuilt distributor because I had to open the other one back up again. Didn't have a new plate for it. Ran like crap the second time I took it apart.

I will have to get more videos later.

The seams on the firewall. The caulking was missing. we re caulked the interior. Also the panels that bolt to the firewall. Re sealed all that.

very well done. Great work on everything.

TIPSP 01-03-2016 09:31 PM

Thanks,

And thanks to all the people that helped me get it done. Me and my dad did most of the work.
somethings like machining and the drive shaft where out sourced. I learned(ing) to tig weld on this car.
Ian (hiperfauto) played a major rolled with awesome parts and advice.
Ben helped with custom awesome parts, and some other people not on this forum help source parts.

oh, and this is my daily drive so it will not see too much boost.
The pulley is designed to run the charger at 14,000 rpms (which is like 10 psi), but I can control that with the bypass valve on the charger.

probably 5-7psi. should be like 160 crank hp.

The Full Banana 01-03-2016 09:55 PM

Wow, this is a really neat car. Very well done, I can't wait to see more!

hiperfauto 01-03-2016 10:04 PM

That looks amazing. I had no idea you put so much work into this car. I'm glad you finally got it all sorted out.

And what's this about a supercharger? You never said anything about it.

GTJordan 01-03-2016 10:38 PM

Beautiful work. Beautiful.

DavoS40 01-03-2016 10:42 PM

Awesome work, car looks great!

Nick Oc 01-03-2016 11:35 PM

This car is hands down the sexiest 240 I have ever seen. That interior is the sex.

NO_SPRK 01-03-2016 11:51 PM

A+

Thanks for keeping the b20 in there!

Lord_Athlon 01-03-2016 11:52 PM

Nothing I could possibly say holds a candle to the craftsman ship put forth; This car is stunning beyond all comprehension.

brendon_ak 01-04-2016 01:03 AM

Oh. My. Lord.

Truly impressive, I'm gonna post some of these pics in the inspiration thread, you've more than earned it.

What made you want to stick with the b20?

amerbritcan 01-04-2016 01:23 AM

I love that interior. So awesome.

volvoshredder 01-04-2016 01:53 AM

Fantastic! So stoked to see someone revive a '75 and keep the b20.

Jack 01-04-2016 02:09 AM

really good job there.
what did you do to the undercarriage .... or I should say... how did you do it ?

TIPSP 01-04-2016 03:57 AM

Thank you guys. Means a lot. Most of the cars on here are my inspiration.

lol, I didn't want to say anything about it till I figured out what I was doing.
But it is fun to throw in a teaser image here and there.

The car was suppose to be a quick put together and drive it as it was, we had parts ordered to fix the B20, so that is why it stayed.
It took a month of trouble shooting to figure out why it would not start. We were tempted to rip it out and stick a V8 to match the transmission in the car now.

I like the idea of the original engine in it also... Plus, not many people have a 75 242 with an Eaton supercharged B20 ;)
I haven't seen one yet...

The underside of the car was in pretty good shape for the most part. There was mostly surface rust. I used a wire brush on some parts, but most was taken care of by that rust removal/primer chemical (jasco). seemed to work okay. I believe it was SEM brand Rubberized undercoating.

Edit:
I used goof off, and acetone to the underside after the clean up so the undercoating had a better stick. Then I did a very light coat of summit racing black spray paint over the undercoating.

The axle was a more wire brushing. a lot more rust on that part.

122power 01-04-2016 04:28 AM

Wow nice work and car dude. First 75' 242 Ive seen in that color.

Harlard 01-04-2016 04:34 AM

Suddenly one of my favorites. Good going, man.

petiww 01-04-2016 04:35 AM

Oh finally! :-D

I liked this car from the beginning, even from the progress pictures of the 244 turbo you could tell this 242 is in good hands.
Although I was a bit curious about the titan rimpz on it at first. Fortunately you did not disappoint me!
Tasty, classic looking with a perfect ride height and a pushrod engine.
Hats off for you and your father, really nice work!

I hope this one won't get messed up by some idiot driver...
