Shim the cluster bearings to about .004in or so of preload when you install the support plate. Dial in the input shaft play. Loose is not good, a little drag is much better.

As a reminder, not ALL 240 axles need to be cut. Seems like the ABS rear ends (at least the one that I swapped into my old 242 turbo) don't need to have the axles shortened.

Jaguar XJ6 (mid 70s-85) much more stiff: ~$20

Both require different nuts. 164 is 7/16in course, XJ6 mount is 3/8in fine thread.

Critical speed on a 3in or 3.5in diameter ds is really really high, so probably not the issue.

The rally car has a 2.75in (maybe 2,5in) ds, and the critical speed is around 5500-6k rpm I think....

It's not that great for a DD. For grass-o-cross, stock springs and struts are fine.
If you want something stiffer, HD front springs which are probably in the 140lb-in range are cheap and decent.
