I didn't budget build mine, but I didn't go HAM either. I think after the dust settled, I was sitting around 8k. Could've done it cheaper, could've easily spent more on it....

yeah, if you've milled out a bcp head that much I'm almost surprised it hasn't cracked. overlap doesn't burn exhaust gaskets. poor sealing is the main culprit, and ****ty gaskets is up there as well....

if OP is considering ditching the a/c, OP could then relocate the alternator down. Most folks around here use the 8v block which allows for a bit more flexibility in accessory placement.
