Those Bosch knock sensors are surprisingly durable. Contact plating tends to corrode, especially if the gasket on the plug is missing.

I got a new one this week. When the clutch is depressed a whining noise appears. Sometimes it is loud, other times it is barely noticeable. Otherwise it shifts normally. Throw out bearing?

I toyed with that idea actually. Inject water into a downpipe, in attempt to cool the exhaust and reduce the back pressure. No idea what the gain would be.
