V8 and 4cyl have the same spline count and I think almost identical length. The difference between them is the tip diameter.

For a 4cylinder, use the ranger diesel input shaft bearing.

Got a 4 cylinder t5 that is healthy for pretty cheap. Whether I keep the b20 or not, I now have a full t5 swap setup minus a clutch disk and speedo cable.

Most VW guys (including myself) run sprung clutch disks and single mass flywheels. Engine braking (extremely important on stock drum brakes) is good, and there is no noticeable chatter.
