I narrowed an 8.8 for my 1800. If you want I can get a hub to hub measurement when I'm at my shop tomorrow morning. It gets narrowed right around 2 7/8.

I much prefer a GOOD crimp connection with heat shrink over it than a solder connection. Added flex of the crimp helps it hold up, and an adhesive style heat shrink keeps the joint from pulling apart...
