The problem is pre-ignition you usually don't...

The problem is pre-ignition you usually don't hear untill it's too late, detonation is the one that sounds like you're shaking an empty spraypaint can.

you probably have an injector that is leaking...

you probably have an injector that is leaking down when you shut the car off- the raw fuel drips into the affected cylinder,collects between the piston rings & cylinder wall causing a temporary loss...

They make the arms out of a softer metal than the shaft for just this reason- it's way easier & cheaper to replace just the arms than the whole wiper transmission (on a 240 it's no picnic to replace...

I used an adjustable clutch master cylinder pushrod from a Toyota to get the clutch pedal closer to the floor- I would think you could do the same with the brake pedal- a little more work involved...
