There will be many opinions on conventional vs. synthetic...but IMO, use what you like however synthetic is not required.

Here is a screenshot from the Greenbook. No mention of synthetic....

IIRC that light is connected to a pressure switch...

IIRC that light is connected to a pressure switch that stalls the engine and indicates if the turbo generated too much boost. You may have missed a connection when re-installing dash.

You can also do a "dye test" aka "block test" by renting a tool from AutoZone (test fluid is ~$10). This will detect combustion gases in the coolant reservoir = bad headgasket....

Headgasket replacement was a success, also...

Headgasket replacement was a success, also replaced the crank and aux shaft seals. The “rope trick” works well for crank pulley bolt removal and installation.

Get “fuel injection” hose that is meant for higher presssure. Don’t use regular fuel hose. You can get fuel injection hose at most auto parts stores.

Essentially yes...both are intended to condense oil out of crankcase vapors and drain the oil back to the block and route the vapors back to the intake in order to burn them during normal combustion.
