It's possible to use a standard 0.6v drop diode, or a transistor wired as a diode, as a temperature sensor but I'd think that it would have accuracy problems with a remote diode and the wires running...

Does your dome light still work, and does it have a fancy fade away feature instead of just shutting off immediately? If so, I'm guessing that...
