If it was that bad the heads probably badly warped ie scrap and the bottom end knock sounds like it was a worn engine anyway, it will be a lot cheaper to fit another engine.

If your turbo is water cooled you have to drain...

If your turbo is water cooled you have to drain down the coolant or clamp the hose's as soon as you take them off, no need to worry about the oil.
