Do a cold compression test. I've had this happen before on mildly blown head gaskets. Once warm, the fire ring sealed up properly. When cold, it did not.

I've had excellent results with a 0 up to 0000 steel wool and WD40. Just be sure to clean it very well once complete as to remove any metal shavings.

Then lube it up and install.

Just turbo it if you want more power. You can turbo Regina just fine. In fact, it's probably easier to go standalone on because it already utilizes a MAP+IAT system rather than a stupid AMM.
