I thought about just sourcing two other middle latch (the one with the short seatbelt on it) in place of the cable type latch which is hard to sit on. This way you dont need to modify the chassis.

I did it mine with a rubber boot from a ball joint, and a cut thru volvo rubber. The boot fits nicely in the chassis hole, and snugly around the wiper too....

Well, I'm not sure about the crossmembers, as all M47 crossmembers I've seen had rubber bushings where they connect to the frame rails.
BW55/M45 uses a different one without rubber bushings, one M46...
