You should be able to figure out which one it is, as one of the calipers will be considerably warmer than the others after a short drive.

+1. I was chasing a similar issue with my 240. After changing a bunch of stuff, found a small hole in the intake accordion hose. Once that was taken care of, surging idle cleared up.

Look for flaky/broken insulation on the wires. The part of the harness for the alternator, oil sender, alternator exciter are usually pretty bad where they pass around the front of the engine.
