Fair enough. There is an MSD SCI which is has the same guts as an MSD-6a but just a different case colour for quite cheap around here at $90 CAD so I'm thinking that might be the best route.

That is a good thought although my intake sits low in the front passenger side and takes air in through a flap cut open in the bottom sheet metal in that area. No grime on the hood in that area.

Lots of troubleshooting later and the problem ended up being a female spade connector that had been pushed out of the socket for the fuel injection relay. Everything is back to normal now.
