The driveshaft has 3 U-joints in it, it could be one of them has gone dry/worn out. Many many years ago I replaced mine. Actually come to think of it I might need to grease mine now.

Why not the original alternator bulb in the dash? That's all it needs to get excited, and of course key switch power.

Just use the same wire in the harness, or find it on one of the strut tower...
