It's the M62TU (vanos model) that you have to worry about. Those came about in late 98 build date cars.

If it's the chinsy dealer installed rack, the holes are SAE not metric. All I know is the little rubber nutserts are 1/4-20 IIRC. You can buy them at ACE hardware.
