If I had to do it all over again (and seeing just how fused the bracket was to the sensor), I would’ve tried heating up the sensor with a small butane lighter just enough to melt the outer plastic....

If the amp's line out was 8 ohm, and the speaker was 4 ohm, then you could use a 4 ohm resistor to LIMIT the output impedence to the speaker to 4 ohms.
