Atom's Amazon Wagon Project Update Thread

Sweet! I love the beemer hood latch. It?s really well laid out. Are you gonna drive it to ipd this year?

That?s my plan. Not sure on the level of completion, but it?ll hopefully be there. My wife booked her plane ticket already. Not using the BMW hinge system OR the Volvo one.

You have been busy, congratulations on the first drive. Looking forward to the day when I can do the same with the Molvo.

So...how solid is the merged chassis? Many creaks or rattles that need to be attended to?

Not a single one actually. I had a rattle, but it turned out to be the metal dust shield on the rear shock. Plenty of other stuff to work out though. Right now it?s defroster/defogger (whatever you call it) and getting the cluster further in the dashhole (lol).

So, not a lot has gotten done lately. Mostly just driving it off and on to sort out the bugs. Got another set of temporary wheels to use until I can get it five lug swapped. I need to put new inner/outer tie rods on it soon (this thing is gonna be brand new by the time I finish replacing parts).

Popular circa ‘99-early 2000s

They’re pretty light. Couple of cracks I needed to weld up. Kind of what I expected for the price. They balanced out. So I Dipped them up. I’ll throw them on this week probably

Those are pretty sweet looking. Make a center cap that covers the lugs and makes them look like a centerlock wheel.

That?s a great idea. I am cutting some small ones tomorrow maybe I?ll CAD something up next week.

Not bad! I even like the color. If I keep em a while, I'll probably paint them that color. Could use a meatier rear tire. Need to stop living that AWD tire life and embrace the stagger.

Hard to tell in the late evening photo on the car, but they’re a nice grey color that compliments the Morkblau really nicely.

I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I like 18” on this car so much more.

They look cool.

They are about as big as you can get and still look cool, but still in the cool range.

Be careful on the highway, you'll damage/destroy the rim if you hit anything substantial.

I?ve run low profile tires on pretty much all my cars (Of course now I?ve jinxed myself).

This car is insane. Do you have plans to mod the M20? Those are around 170hp, right? I'm sure it's a blast to drive, just wondering what the long term engine plans are for something with so much aftermarket support.

The version I have is ?supposed to be? 170, but I?m not holding my breath. I?m also not going to be silly until I replace the timing belt and stuff. I have zero idea of mileage and it?s an interference motor. Honestly, I think I?d like to just make it a little more rev happy for now. Long tube header, free flow exhaust, MS3 and ITBs and play for a while. Forced induction will be tough. There is ZERO room for an air to air intercooler. I could potentially do air to water. Stretch goal would be M60/M62 V8. If for no other reason than the tone.

Just your run-of-the-mill 2-door E30 chassis'd Amazon wagon. Sitting in the driveway like it's any old car. Impressive progress...and the new wheels look much better! Did you give up on the salt flats wheel idea? Those would work really well aesthetically but not be easy to adapt to E30 hubs I'm sure.

No, I still intend on getting Salt Flats. I?m gojng to wait until I do a five lug conversion. Also, fitting wheels closer to the size I intend on running affords me the ability to dial in offset and tire size.
