Hello,

Has anyone ever seen one of these badges before (see below).

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/ghostozuul/IMG_1112.jpg">

It came on my '82 244 GLT and i was curious if it's an official volvo high milage badge or if it's a club badge or something...

anyway...

thanks!

Whoa. That's one of the old style ones. Had that style on my 1800, 142 and the 100k on my '82. Then they switched over to the coloured badges in like the mid/late '80's.

cool. thanks for the info.

it's ready for the 200,000 milage badge... it would be cool if i could find an old style one to match!

thanks again!

Me thinks it would be easier to floss that one off and switch over to the new style badges.

high mileage badge from Europe

I saw one of those on a silver 244 that a friend of mine had. He bought it from a guy that was the original owner. That guy bought the car new in Germany. He got that badge from Volvo in Europe as their high mileage badge. The car was an 1982 244.

common until the early 90's...

you could still get them around 91-92 or so. i ordered a 200,000 for my 88 240 gl, and gold plated it, and glued it to the lower gauge dummy plate beside the radio. i dont know if i still have it stashed away or not.

Do they still do this at all? For some reason I was thinking they discontinued the program all together.

Yes, they do.
Go here and login. http://www.volvocars.us/tools/OwnersInfo/
Then click on clubs, then high mileage club. That's where they hid all the info on it. I don't see where they put the pdf you fill out on there, but it used to be there. You can also ask your dealer parts or service counter for a form (don't ask sales, they won't have a clue and will tell you strange things). You may or may not have to bring the car in to the dealer for an odometer reading, but in general you will not and it is free if you do.

To the best of my knowledge they have done the high mileage awards since at least the late 80's without stopping, though the badge design has changed at least three times. The badges in this post (square metal ones) are the second generation. I have seen a half-dozen or so on cars, but I live in Seattle.
Mercedes is the one that keeps canceling and bringing back their high mileage awards. Annoying.

volvo high mileage badges

You can also call the national Volvo customer support phone number and connect to a rep that will send you the high mileage club form. Then once you are registered and are a member from then on when you have earned another badge you can call for them to send it. Sorry, I don't know the number but it's on their website. The Volvo literature number is the only one I remember. 1 800 25volvo for buying literature like wiring manuals and other printed materials.
