Volvo double-din aka. 780 radio panel

Installed Volvo 780 radiopanel last week in my Volvo 940 Turbo wagon.

Here are the pic:

This what I bought from Volvo:

Radiofack (Radio panel) Vo3510660 445.-
Lock (Cover) Vo1376250 60.-
Lock (Cover) Vo1356392 52,50.-
Ljusdelare (Light spread) Vo1384062 125.-

Moved over the old cigarette outlet, lamp, clamp and 2 screws.

Lets begin.

Close up on the small parts


We put the light spreader on


No it?s installed, and push the lamp in.


On with the clamp.


Put the cigarette outlet on.

Done, except for the covers.


Let?s se it in the car.

Here it is, and the sun was shining today.
Together with the car stereo


Nokia OEM charger, it?s a bit tiny between the first gear and the Nokia charger


PS. And Yes, the other DIN would be full in the nearest future, stay tuned

my plan for my double din is to get a 6CD in dash MP3 CD changer. hohohoho

What are you planning on putting in the other opening?

I have a 780 radio panel that I was going to install in my '85 740. Last time I looked at it, There was not much room behind the lower opening. What can you fit in there?

I put one in my 940 with a standard cd player in the top and three VDO vision gauges below. It works well and looks more stock than most options.

i love it because it's flush with the dash

Right on the spot, 3 VDO of some sort with correct illuminate color oil pressure, oil temp and volt. Also the cover beneath the lower DIN is planned, but that I won?t tell

Hi guys,

I found this thread and I hope someone can answer my questions:

I have a 940 date 1997 (European) and I want to install a double DIN car radio.

Am I understanding correctly that the kit P/N 1356392 for 780 fits the 940 too?
If so, does it need any changes?

Presently I am on 1DIN and for me it is important to maintain the cigarette lighter as I need it to charge other devices.

You're in Canada and have a 1997 940? Imported?

And I've since put a 780 frame into my 940. The frame needs to be cut and a universal double DIN frame installed in it first. Then, the overdrive relay (if applicable) has to be relocated under the tray (remove relay, pop out connector and shove underneath and reinstall relay lol), the whole relay tray has to be tilted up and shoved back. Install the deck then you're golden.

No, I don't see the relay in your picture. You will still need to move the tray, though. Welcome to Canada!

Thanks, I'm already 5 years in Canada , but I could only import the car on 2012, so once 'she' was 15 years old.

When you refer to the tray, which one do you mean?

Regarding the frame, the plate in the middle needs to be cut so that I can get the space for the double DIN... I assume the universal metal double DIN frame comes with the radio I will buy...

Is there any place on the back where the whole thing can be hooked?

Yeah, you gotta cut this tray/frame thing:



Then install one of these in it:



And those won't came with the radio. Easy to get on Crutchfield.ca, I think. At the very least, you can get a radio deck wiring harness adapter from Crutchfield (required for any radio you use).

This. Once you have the center piece cut out you need to get that cage. I did a similar thing with my (current) double din by mounting an aluminum fascia over it so I could incorporate additional 12v and USB plugs.

Compatible with a 740?

I have an '88 turbo sedan (150k miles, in the family since '88!) that my daughter will drive when she gets her license. I have a decent aftermarket head unit installed already, but I want to get an Apple Carplay compatible head unit, however they only come in double DIN.

The goal is to install a double DIN head unit in the '88 that looks decent.

Cool. I see there are several parts that go along with it, and they are all discontinued. I have time before my daughter starts driving, so I'll do what I can. I'm assuming I can just remove the center dividing section and install the double din sleeve and trim piece.
