Hi,

i searched the board and just found irritating and inconsistent stuff around..

so this time serious and with pic and maybe later with add in the FAQ?

So.. heres a nice pic of my 93* FT Block.. i think(hope) the threads dont differ between the years?

b230FTthreads.jpg

Threads used for:

1: Used for waterbased oilheatsink / plugged when using ext., air-oilcooler
2: Banjo for turbo-oilfeed
3: Oil warningcontact / alt. oilpressure
4: additional bore to main waterchannel (dunno what this is used for)
5: Oil Filter Adapter to mount without mounting Arm
6: additional bore to main oilchannel (used @ i.e. camerons Motor for oilfeed)

Thread sizes

now its your turn.. unfortunately i dont have any threadmeasurementtools except for metrical outer threads but not for inner NPTs and stuff...

1: 3/8 NPT ??
2: M14x1,5
3: M14,1,5
4: same as 1?
5: 3/4" 16tpi
6: 1/4" NPT
7: Oil drain / Pan t.b.c.
8: Oil Gallery Bellhousing t.b.c.
9: Oil Gallery Business end t.b.c.

THX ! I hope this would be, when finished, helpful in the FAQ?

1: I remember this as 3/8 NPT (in your shops available as G3/8)
2: M14x1,5
3: M14,1,5
4: dont know
5: 3/4" 16tpi (Available at specialist shops, at least here)
6: 1/4" NPT

B230 = B230, no changes in threads. Some B23 stuff can be different (location/orientation, like oil feed/drain/pressure sender)

There is a thread/hardware faq in maintenance, not really updated much though..

You are my new Mr. Awesome now :oogle:

1 should at least be the same than 4.. i remeber when i swapped from water heatsink to air oilcooler i stole the plug from 4 off my B234F Block to screw it into 1 in my B230FT

Thread necrophilia, but it may as well stay in one place! So:

Re 1 vs. 4, they do indeed appear to share the same thread style/size/pitch, my block drain fitting feels good screwing into the #4 hole.

I'll be sourcing a new bung for 4 soon and will update on what the thread is so the above post can be edited from red to green once I do that.

I do not have hole 2 due to natural asphyxiation, and have a question about the internal structure of it, how big is the hole through to the gallery behind in this? Anyone got a bare turbo block to measure?

Lastly, there's a few things missing from the list:

7) Oil drain fitting thread size/pitch/style? Internet says press fit, no thread, and taps to 3/4 NPT from stock, or 1/2 NPT if NA and undrillled
8) and 9) oil gallery bungs on the bell housing/business end, same as #6 I guess - they look it. Ditto sourcing soon.

My shopping list:

1 of M14x1.5 end-tap for oil feed #2
3 of #6/8/9 bungs with better drive style if possible
1 of #4 bung with better drive style if possible
Something appropriate for sealing these pressurised taper threads

How sure are you that #6 is 1/4 NPT? Ditto #1 and #4 being 3/8 NPT? I have here 1/4 and 3/8 BSPT bungs that screw right in about 4 or 5 threads before they start to come up against the taper.

IE, I think these are BSPT, not NPT. NPT appears to be an America-only standard. Correct me if I'm wrong. Calipers say that what I have matches stock. Anyone got a 1/4 NPT or 3/8 NPT handy to measure?

The thread cut angle is supposed to be different, and the ones I have match the stuff I took out with no visible light. Not sure how to properly measure them, but that's a pretty strong sign. Perhaps they're just so damn similar that it doesn't matter much?

OK, yes, they are that similar. 18 TPI vs 19 TPI and about the same diameter/taper. I'll have a closer check and see if I'm screwing things up. Likely yes? Possibly no?

I put a 3/8 npt in position 4- that's what the machine shop gave me. But it just threaded all the way through without tightening up. I was gonna see if I can order the Volvo part from work.

Many countries used NPT on blocks--Japanese, German, Swedish..and merikun

Almost nobody would even conceive of using BSPT unless they were a Pommie bastid or wannabe pom.
Reckon its time to dust off those ol Punch a Pom a day T-shirts?

Yeah those area all NPT on teh ovlov.

BSPP is used on teh ovlov oil cooler, but I haven't come across BSPT yet.
