Tips for late 7 / 9 series windshield installation?

I've got to buy replacement windshields for a pair of 92s..... my 745T and the DD 944T

To get a proper flush edge trim condition, do I need to buy any of the factory clips? I'm going to have to make one last order from the online store, so I can add those items IF it will give me a nice flush install.

I know the glass is probably all Chinese/Taiwanese now, can't do anything about that.... but I want the peripheral trim to flush out nicely for both these replacements.

Advice from those who've done it? I need to start calling the local shops to get his lined up.

thanks TB.

I've put in a couple 240 windshields with only butyl, no clips. That is what a glass installer will do. The rubber trim piece, it is not a seal, comes in various widths. Be sure to get one wide enough to cover the paint marks, probably 3/4". Without asking you are probably going to get 5/8".

I don't know what type of trim pieces are needed for the 2 series; I know the late glass & seal system does not use all the stainless/aluminum edge trim.

My 7 & 9 cars have what appears to be very thin stainless with a rubber lip facing to the glass side; will the installer reuse this trim when he installs the new glass or is new provided with the windshield?

There is a hard rubber lip seal which attaches to the edge of the wiper valence; I know this must be reused. My question about finishing trim is for the A pillars and roofline. Also, the small 90* pieces at the top of the windshield are a bit eroded, don't really look reusable.

Checking the online VOLVO parts..... they show nothing available except the glass and the butyl seal; they list nothing on these 3 sides of the glass.

The glass will just be glass, the trim pieces are either to be reused or replaced. I just had a windshield installed on one of my 740s and they reused everything but the top corner pieces, for those spots they just used that black gunk since I assume most corners don’t last.

I have seen new trim kits but they are expensive and far away. But if you really want new and oem it’s possible.

The windshield trim was NLA from Volvo long ago. If you act quickly, SLUMLORD has a nice set I helped him remove from a 1993 940 a couple of weeks ago. The butyl rubber ribbon or bead of urethane sets the height of the glass relative to the channel. There are no spacers or clips that set the height. Make sure to get a set of new trim clips. They are going to be extremely brittle after 25+ years of being sun baked.

EEuroparts shows it as still available:

But the prices have more than doubled since I saved the part numbers 3 years ago. Yowza.

2many,

What clips? I've checked a pair of the online sites and neither show the "clips" you refer to. They do show what I'm calling a ledge support: a pair of these right above the wiper line for the glass to rest on. I'll presume the clips hold the 3 sided trim at A pillars and top of the windscreen. I'll order once I know the PN.

The trim pieces are held by clips which are mounted the edge of windshield frame. The trim pieces slide on the clips.

There are many OEM parts out there still available, just not from a Volvo dealer. I didn't know about these. Thanks for the link.

OK, IPD says it takes 15 to do a vehicle.

NOW, these snap into the mini rivets which are in the window frame opening? Are the sticks of trim slide onto them, starting from above the roof then pushing the A pillar pieces down to the wiper valence? OR do they snap onto these clips?

The clips slide on the pins which are in the window frame. The trim pieces slide on to clips. If there are any 7/9s in the local yards, check one out to familiarize with how everything goes before you do it on your own car.

eEuro says these fit only 94-95. Likely just a late version of this trim..... but better ask the experts if it will fit my 92(s).
