I like the 75 engines better as they are metric threaded blocks. Also 75 had breakerless ignition which is nice to use. But having owned both with at least 200k on the 74 and over 300k on the 75 we used to have. Both were durable in my experience. It's the fiber cam gear that stopped the 75. It broke apart at about 325k and the engine had that crap everywhere inside. We put a rebuit engine in there and rolled the car for a while longer.
