Widest rim possible on a coilover equipped 7/9? 18x8.5" too much? Open Discussion.
first of all, I ^think^ this is the right section for this, because let's face it, who doesn't want the widest possible rims? More width means more rubber choices, and wider rubber means better traction. It also doesn't fit into showroom, but it's not really a maintenance thing either...
I picked up a set of 18x8.5" BBS RMII alloys recently... From a jaguar S-Type, 5x108, ET=22mm and 18x8.5" all around. Nice wheels. Have the intent to put them on my 1993 945ti. The 940 has MVP coilovers, and adjustable rear spring perches. I'm wondering how much I'm going to need to roll the fenders to get them to fit, and what series of tire you think would be best... The only person I can recall going wider than 8" is maybe chigga, and he has had the same coilovers I do. Maybe Box Driver...
I'm sorta' confused, mostly because they're sitting just across the border in blaine at a mailbox waiting for me to go grab them. So without them in front of me, I'm trying to get an idea of just how screwed up this plan might be, lol. I know that 8" work okay and require a little more rolling on the 240, but apparently the 7/9 series is a bit more accomadating, I've been told? Any validity to this?
I already figure I'll have to probably pull the plastic fender liners, which is fine. I don't see them playing too nice.
Sticking my head under the car, the 16x7.5" team dynamics seem to have lots of room to breathe even when tucked in... But Volvo wouldn't go wider than 7" on any of it's factory offerings, right? Except for the one Bertone wheel?
Anyway, let the chatter begin, not much to go by, I know, but let's get the ball rolling. Certainly I can't be the first 7/9 series owner to face this conundrum.
Feel free to post photos, experiences, epic failures, epic wins, 240 applications, etc etc...
