Spokane mechanic needed./

My brother is in Spokane and I am in Atlanta; too far away to do this for him.

He has a 1988 245 with a leaking cam seal. Likely needs a timing belt and the other front seals also. Can anyone recommend a shop or does someone local to him want to do it for pay.

This is just a little beyond his skill set. He is great with aircooled VWs.;-) Want to take a road trip? Three days there, three days back with 3-hours in the middle to do the repairs. Would you charge mileage and drive time?

Not a problem at all. I thought that your post was humorous. You are correct that three days is a little short. I have made the trip from Atlanta a number of times. It can be done in three days, but those are long days. I usually have a couple of stops to visit family along the way. I did make a quick drive from Atlanta to the IPD event a few years ago though.
 
Send him to C & H Foreign Auto on North Foothills Drive. They will take very good care of him and his car. May come with a price tag, but they do great work and are the Volvo specialists to see in Spokane. Have him ask for Scott. Good Luck.

Thanks. He spoke with them and thought that they were very knowledgeable. However, I don't think that my brother can afford them.
 
Spokane's craigslist shows a variety of choices.

If he can't afford a top flight mechanic then I guess he'll just have to roll the dice and hope for the best.
 
Or drive to Portland.:) C&H: wanted $600, but that included the timing belt and the other front seals.

Anyone that makes a living repairing cars is going to be a bunch of bucks and the original estimate usually does not cover things found along the way on a 30+ year old car.

Nope. He will pay real money. However, the first recommended shop wanted $600 which was more than he could afford. Remember, he drives an '88 245:) He will check out the second shop today. I sent him some tools and parts so he may try it himself if he can't find someone more reasonable to do it.

After some checking, the oil separator might be clogged as there is outgoing pressure from the valve cover; hoses are good.
