Yesterday I found out that a 148 tooth timing belt is to long ....pulling the head tomorrow :( ..exhaust valves have skimmed the pistons and left marks :(

Head off

20170318_232333.jpg

Have a look on the left side of the piston ...there are two marks from the valve?s

On the right side ...after cleaning the piston.

Checking to see if there is any valve damage

20170319_150659.jpg

After first using atf oil to check the valves, I then used spirits to check the combustion chamber and then in the exhaust channels with no leaking at all , I thought great all is good then by chance a guy from Pole Star told me that the springs are strong enough to straiten the valves and that I should pull two and have a look ...well that was a good idea as all 10 were bent.

Nice catch! any valve marks on the pistons? (fresh metal)

yes there were valve marks on all 5 pistons from the exhaust valves, so I new that they had made contact. But considering that it happened while trying to start the engine ( start engine power only) I though that the valve had survived.

You can see two small marks on the right side of the piston.

Today?s work ...had I issue with one of the pinbolts on the exhaust side, I fought I had remedied the fault when i put the engine in the car but als, so I tried a hellicoil again and that would not work and I really did not feel like pulling the head again.
So I put two short hellicoils on the pinbolt and covered them in bensole ( chemical metal that we use to mend furnaces with) I then filled the hole with the same bensole and knocked the pinbolt in place. thats the last time any one will ever get that pinbolt out:)

After that ordeal I mounted the exhaust manifold and then the turbo and hooked up the downpipe too...geting close to startup nr two :)
