244, Holset, and 30psi.

Hey advice on the 850 clutch kit is to throw it out as mine slips at 20-25 psi on a 50 trim. I'd go with a clutchnet 6 puck.
 
Thanks for the heads up. Boost will begin at 15psi though, won't see 30psi until i am sure everything else is going as it should.

@sweep : yeah my first one came from him too. Ebay shop is called something like dixall. Turbo was still good, no play whatsoever, but too rusty for the time i had to give it TLC.

That's the one! Yeah mine seemed fine too, couldn't get it apart so sent it to a turbo specialist here, pretty much fell into bits.
 
Hi peeps.
Long time no post.

First : the car is running, and damn its running good.

Summary of the last year :

Finished the engine and wiring. Started as it should.

















ECU panel with MS3x :





I immediately noticed that the clutch was spinning as soon as it got on boost.
Took the gearbox out, only to find a greasy flywheel and disc.
Cleaned everything, put the gearbox back in. Things got better. No slippage until 7-8 psi boost.
This is what it looked like :






Than i noticed i had oil eveywhere in the engine bay.
So changed all the gaskets i could (oil filler cap, oil dip stick, cam cover, etc).
Then when i started the car, i put on a smoke show as far as 3 blocks away.

Long story short, the engine block was getting some pressure and the only way out was the turbo. So it was eating oil like crazy.

Some mods later, and a real oil catch tank system, all is well in the world.

and gaawwwdaaaaamn it's fast. My wastegate can't seem to manage boost under 15psi, although i got a 7 psi spring in it but oh well. life is boring under 15psi anyway.

But the car is now dangerous. For real. I needs brakes and suspension really bad.
IPD bars are on their way, and i am still thinking about what shocks would suit my soon-to-be cut springs.

Long journey but damn it makes me smile every morning on my way to work :rofl:

So a greasy flywheel would cause this? I have a similar issue on my 945 but it?s on stock boost.
 
Yeah I could only drive the thing on partial throttle. Some told me it could be the grease parts are covered with from factory.
And also the fact that the rubber plug on the back of the head popped out at some point, making an oily mess on the gearbox and clutch assy
 
Nice, sounds good! Feeling of a proper turbo that spools is unbeatable.
Happy the cause of clutch slip has been found.

Some Renault vans have good looking 7x17 steelies with 5x108 bolt pattern. Should give ample space for bigger brakes. Porsche Cayenne/VW Touareg Brembo brakes maybe? Massive calipers yet light, very nicely made stuff.

I'm very happy with spherical bearings for the big rubber bushings in the trailing arms (rear axle), 'hybrid' torque rods, kaplhenke quick steer roll correction spacers. Really transformed the way my 240 handles. Springs and shocks first ofc :cool:

+1 for JW240's advice, you can get Citro?n C6 17" steelies which are 5x108 7x17 et 32 with 65.1mm center bore. All over Leboncoin and even brand new on tyre/rim websites in France. Mount 225/45/17's and it'll look stock with ~15mm spacers. I ran some for a while.

Yup those are nice too. Buddy of mine runs those and found a version that fits without spacers.

About the brakes, before thinking about new calipers, i've always had good luck with brand new fluid and agressive pads. I am sure i can find that for a 240 as well. Will look at sweden shops for that. Today my problem is i can do only a pair of 4th gear pulls before the pedal gets spongy :rofl:

About suspension : i looked into BNE quick steer spacers, and i am sold !
But first thing first : shocks and springs, then maybe bushings ? No use for fancy parts if all rubbers are on the edge of failure.

And once i get the good handling and ride height, i will look into widened steelies wheels.

Hi guys,

I am more and more thinking of bitting the bullet and take the pistons out to gap the rings properly. I am now running 1bar boost, but the more i read, the more i realize that when i crank up the boost, i will inevitably have ring ends touch and bind.

What gap do you guys reckon i should have for stock B230FK pistons at 2bar boost on e85 ?

Here's what Wiseco have to say about it :

So for their pistons, they advise to gap at bore * 0.004 = 3.8 *0.004 = 0.0152 = 0.39mm.

Do you think I can use this ?

Some news. Got the IPD bars in.







Hell, that made a world of difference. Appart from the bars, i only got PU bushings on the front, and panhard bar.
Now the cars behaves really good, it remains flat in corners, and i can give it the beans without trying to keep it in line in 3rd and upwards.

Also i finally removed the soaked in oil clutch disc, to replace it with a 6 puck sintered.
Now it grips like a mofo in every gear.

How do you even put the power down?
I struggle in hairpins with stock 135 hp and the rear 25mm IPD swaybar. Feels like it picks up the inner wheel.
 
Same here. I got the 14" rims with old winter tires. Bigger rims with better tires would help for sure.

In a straight line, i light up the tires (more like ONE tire) in second but not in third.

I am still thinking about welding the diff, or cracking 700€ in an LSD.
At least, the car doesnt behave like a boat in corners anymore.
