b230ft in 145i Build thread

Yep it helped. I passed the light part of the Brake and Light inspection, but going back later this week with new rear brake parts and will pass the brake part. Then I get my plates and tags for my 145!

OHNO DOOH ! sorry about that. Trash it. I want it but can have it. I did not want to have to say it but "the wife said "no more junk unless it fits in the trunk of a civic." kinda embarrassing so now you have it.

Got tired of doing body work / paint prep so for the last 4 days been doing the head liner.

This is allot of work. I bought the fabric i liked, then laid out the old liner on top and cut. Then took off the plastic band and sowed it on by hand over 2 1/2 8 hr days. All and all i think it will look good when done. Right now its a test fit. Still have to cut holes for lights and stuff but i thinks its going to fit just right.

Great job:),

I'm currently putting a b200FT in a 144, I find this thread is very helpful. I cant get the 240 studs in to the mounting holes of the 144, it wont come forward enough. Did it go right in by yours or did you have to dent and cut some stuff? Did you use the original axle with the m47 of the 142 or one of a 240?

Headliner looks awesome:dance:

We talking about tires ? Motor mounts ? im lost. I'd love to help if i know what your referencing to.

If your talking about the motor. I used 240 motor mounts and used the b20b mounting blocks fitted to the b230ft.

As for the axle. Im running the dana 30 that cam in it with a m40 tranny.

Yes I meant the engine block. I saw how you did this with the 140 engine mounts but in your text i read that you used 240 mounts that proven to work best, or wasn't this for the engine?

sorry let me clarify. I did youse the motor feet in the image above.
then insted of using 140 motor mounts like this.

I then had to grind the peg off but it worked.

Stand by ill get you a picture of what i have going on in there now.

So back to body work and painting.

Pea green it is!

I still have to sand the roof again with some 1600 grit and put a second coat.

some of them spots like on the right bottom corner of the image is my camera. but still have to sand and do second coat.

Again taking a break from body work and painting. That stuff is so laborious. Took time to work on door cards. This 145 did not come with door speakers. I don't think any 1972 and earlier ones did. But who ever owned it before had cut huge hols for 5 X 7 's in bot front doors and had the speaker wire running out the side of the panel, under the carpet and up to the stereo. Beside the badly cut gaping hols and rips the littel pouches on the bottom were barely hanging on.

Deciding that i want to put the same fabric as i used for the headliner on the door cards i thought it best to start with some fresh board. non of that oil, water, mold, rot stuff hiding there. So cut out 2 of these today. I think it will hold on the door quite well after its covered and installed.

best part is it only cost 7 bucks for the wood!

I got a supper deal on the fabric. I'd spent 2 separate 30min stints in Fabric Depo looking at what i liked and what would work. Took in a section of the old headliner to compare stretch and weight so it would not sag or not stretch incorrectly. I did have to pass up a few fabrics i liked due to price or not fitting profile i needed. In the end i was happy with my choice. It was good fabric, quilted, but had gone to the clearance rack because no one was buying it so it was knocked down from $28 a yard to $14. on top of that I got a 30% discount on the batting for making it plush underneath. And the best topper because it was veterans say sale and i was a Vet , brought my VA ID card I got 20% off the entire purchase.

It just seemed like the right style for they year 1970 and it would not be so out there that only 1 person could deal with lookin at it. My wife was surprised i had any taste at all.

Thanks for the support harribert, blu92in99, and every one else in prior pages of this post. You all keep me motivated and in the cold grage, not on the computer playing games :)

harribert I like your project page I have to go finish up reading it.

Well got the back 2 door cards done. So guess ill have to clean garage tomorrow and start body work and paint prep again :( Its jsut such hard work that pant prep stuff. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
