Atom's Amazon Wagon Project Update Thread

Love the side badges/indicator lights. Such a subtle but impressing touch.

Those are my favorite things.

Making some nice progress. In the time it took me to weld 1/2 of a door on the blue P1800, you got your hinge system figured out and the roof sanded. Impressive.

Well, the hinge is only started, but I gotta get that mostly done before I can bodywork the hood. I don?t want to have to flip it again.

Amazing thread... :omg:

Thanks. I know it can be a little long winded. It?s quite a read, that?s for sure.

Nothing new to post. Well, not much. Got the most notable dents/dings worked out of the roof and loaded it up with a couple heavy coats of high build primer so I can guide coat it and knock it back. I know it’s wavy in some spots, but I’m pretty sure the high build will eat it up.

Hoping to possibly maybe hopefully cut the first parts in this weekend. We’ll see.

I just gotta give a huge thank you to Vogue Autowerks in Kirkland, WA for letting me work on the Amazon there. I know most of you guys aren’t local to Seattle, but if you are and have a need for the services they offer, please feel good about supporting them. There’s no way I could get all this done in my driveway with the weather the way it’s been (and is supposed to be). I kind of feel bad invading their shop a bit. Mostly because everything I’m doing is dusty and messy. We all need help from others and they’ve really come through for me.

First parts cut in with the new color. Went a bit out of order since I really wanted to see some color for motivation.

Tomorrow I need to block out the roof and re-prime. Might be able to cut in some more parts by the end of the weekend.

Another day of block sanding. Wheeeeee...

This is what guide coat does for those of you who don’t normally do bodywork. It allows you to see sand scratches and low spots

Then you keep blocking until the black is gone

Always wear your respirator when sanding

Doesn’t take much to pull the whole bumper off a p2 and later cars... hard yank at junk yard and the whole things flys off

Try that on an 850... nope it ain’t happening

Not a lot photo’ed today. I just needed a “reset” day. Had Easter morning with the kids. Cleaned the shop. Mopped. Got the hatch cut in. Pulled the grille shell. Started bodyworking the car side door jamb on the passenger side. Made dinner. Finally sitting down with a beer. Probably be asleep in about twen.............zzzzzz

This morning/evening I got the door, fender and door jamb all cut in on the passenger side. I also got the driver’s fender and door off the car and re-installed the lower hatch. I blasted and powder coated some hardware and found out that my upper hatch latch is bad. So is the extra one I got. Working on the fix. Also replacing all the hardware with stainless. I know that’s a dump of info, but it’s late, I just got home and I want to get a few hours of sleep in before I start all over again.

Fixed the hatch latch. Made a new piece from Delrin. Also put the passenger door and fender back on and sourced some more stainless hardware

A little tip for something I do. Align all the parts before hand. With the seals out. Then drill some 1/8 holes between multiple layers. Be conscious of where you put the holes if they’ll be exposed. Then, when you reassemble you can use pick tools, un-popped pop rivers or 1/8” drill rod to align the panels when you re-install.

Once the bolts are tight, pull out the pins and put a dab of silicone/urethane in and over the holes

Weird. I checked VP and CVR and nothing. Also checked Skandix and it said discontinued. Oh well. This should work fine.

I've found the key to getting old parts from the dealers is to not tell them what it is, just tell them the part number.

I used to have the microfiche on all the old models.

You're making quick work of this repair and upgrades Adam. I know it may not feel like it on your end, but it's impressive to see you flying through this phase of the car's life.

What happened with the insurance claim ? Are they making any progress ?

My body and brain are paying the price for the long hours though.

I asked my insurance adjuster where we are at with the subrogation and he said the other insurance took a month to collect the statement from the driver and the business owner. Of course. I?m supposed to hear more by the end of the week.

I?ll try to post more pics later tonight, but I?m reassembling some parts and finally get to see the color in the sun. I love it. It?s hard to photo, but it gets a bit brighter when the sun hits it and a bit warmer in the shade. Bead blasted all the latch components, lubed them up and replaced all the hardware with stainless

Also in the good news department, I have a contact that is supposed to be letting me use his booth in a couple weekends (as long as he doesn?t flake)
